Looking for a bussiness laptop

My brother is looking for a laptop for school. He is an investment banking major, and frequently works with large Excel spreadsheets. He doesn't have a set budget, but keep the suggestions reasonable (750-1500 is probably best). Thanks!

He honestly didnt tell me much. I would assume 15", touch screen not necessary, lighter is better, minimalism design, temps shouldnt matter much, dell/ lenovo preferred, but open to anything, numpad would be preferable.

Would he be OK with a refurbished business machine? I picked up a refurbished HP Elitebook a few weeks ago and I love it. Something like the Zbook might be a good option.

Maybe. I through together a list of like 8 options that I thought of as well as what some people on this thread thought of, and I mentioned the idea of used. Sent him the list already though, so not sure what he'll get.

Is investment banking a major these days? And the most he's gonna run on his private laptop will be a 20 tab dcf with an lbo on the side with some upside downside scenarios. And that's at work, if he's at school he'll run nothing like that unless the course is outsourced to professionals.

Maybe capiq and factset plugins if company allows him. But doubtful if he's in school.

Get a e5480. Dell outlet.

If he's ok with a refurbished computer:

If not,

would be something to consider. I think for what he's doing though, there would be serious benefit to the "business class" notebooks, if for no other reason than he could dock it at his desk and undock it later and take it with him.

Lenovo just released there p51 workstation i think they look decent. http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-p/ThinkPad-P51/p/22TP2WPWP51

I just got a Precision 7710, and the 15" version, the 7510 or newer 7520 are both very nice as well. However, they, like this, are out of the OP's original price bracket. If he decides to go higher though, all three could be good options.

He said $750-$1500 and the p51 base model is $1200

Main PC = I5 7600K @4.5ghz, Asus Gtx1070, 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz, 480GB SSD, Msi Z270 Mobo.

My bad. I was in two "I need a new laptop" threads, and other one had an upper limit of 1k.

In that case, the P51 does look nice, and the 7510/7520 would be options as well.

The Dell Precision 5520 is also amazing - though again, that's on the high side of the $1500 budget, even for the base model without a Xeon/Quadro.
