So I just order an i7 7700k as an upgrade to pair with my 1070. After spending 600 dollars I'm reconsidering my purchase because I'm worried if it's worth it. I game at 1080p and I am replacing a i5 4440. I've only been having to find myself turn down settings in games like BF1. It's weird because I've been saving money on the side for months excited for this purchase and now I'm considering canceling the order and it's keepin me awake :(

Do you have an i5-6600K or 7600K?

If yes: It isn't worth it unless you sell the i5 for close to the value you bought it at.

If no: It is worth it because you should be buying the best CPU you can afford.

I dont have a good enough motherboard on this socket to get an i7 so I figured why not stretch my budget and get more.

what? if your mobo can support an i5 it should be able to support an i7 4790 or 4770.

Well what frame rates are you trying to hit because the i7 is pretty overkill for most things.

thats not how mobos work...

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

As long as it has the same socket type, it will fit any CPU. PCPartPicker isn't always the most reliable when it comes to comptaibility.

It likely has a BIOS update for Haswell Refresh.

since you have an i5 4440 now, instead of getting a 7700k, cancel the order and get a used i7 47xx or e3 1231 v3 instead, cheaper and performance isn't much behind. also you don't have to get a new mobo and ram(unless you're reusing ddr3) which makes it even cheaper.

it'll support it, might need a bios update if it's manufactured earlier but should be fine.

So would I see an improvement in performance between these CPUs?

between the 4440 and 1231 v3/i7 47xx you'll see a good improvement in 1080p 144hz. between the 7700k and haswell i7s not much.

you'll either have to refuse delivery or return it after arrival as said, then you can go ebay and get a haswell i7/xeon. also, did you just get the 7700k or with the mobo and ram(just to make sure)?
