i'm currently using a Corsair VS450 PSU and was thinking of sticking a 1080 in my rig as an upgrade. doing this would bring my max load wattage to 426 watts (according to this: http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/ ) I know that these are very close and i was wandering if it would be worth upgrading my psu before the graphics card?

Yes, upgrade that firebomb. That PSU will not hold out very long when pushing it to the limit.

VS series is not very good, certainly not enough for a 1080 (Wattage isnt the only factor to consider).

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Why choose a crap PSU when you have the money to buy a GTX 1080
Corsair VS is BAD. Even the wattage seems enough. Please change it ASAP before upgrading to 1080.
Selecting a PSU not just looking at the rated wattage but also MUST look into its build quality.

Looking at a corsair TX 650M.  Can you vouch for it compared to the VS?

Yes, the new TX-M grey is decent (although lacking reviews)
What the price? 550W probably enough

Can you look into EVGA and Seasonic units? If Corsair is one of the brands available to you, what about the Vengeance series or RMx/RMi?

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Ideally, for longest life and best efficiency, a system at full load shouldn't use more than about 75% of the PSU's capacity.  A good quality 450W PSU will handle a GTX 1080, but it's definitely pushing it if you've also got a powerful CPU installed.  A 550W PSU would be better for a system like this.

Yes, you have to consider the 12V amperage capabilities as well. If it can't provide the amperage to properly power the GPU, you're looking at a fire hazard!

I'd upgrade to this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/y88H99/evga-supernova-g3-650w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-220-g3-0650

The 12V rail can output up to 54.1 amps. That's plenty of amperage to handle a high-end single GPU gaming setup.

I wouldn't buy from that Seller tbh. Feedback history has a couple of red flags. The item location says Spain but the seller is supposedly in the UK.

Also the cheapest pcpartpicker price for this unit is £89.03 so it looks too good to be true to me.
