Windows Control By Mac Program Needed

I need a program like a remote desktop program. I know Microsoft Remote Desktop exists, but as far as I know, that is for a server. Pretty much, I have a MacBook, and i want to be able to do something on my Windows 7 desktop machine at home. I would like to be able to do this anytime, provided i have an internet connection.

Otherwise use team viewer.

Does the windows need to be activated? If so i will need to reinstall, because i installed the 1 version of windows on my install disc that isnt activated (enterprise) so if/when i reinstall i should do pro?

doesn't need to be pro, server, pro, enterprise, education, ultimate all have it built in.

basically open run, type in sysdm.cpl, go to remote, enable, disable the extra auth option, then connect to it with its ip.

And this can be done remotely. like my computer (windows) could be in a different state than my macbook, and this could still work?

you need to enable port fordwarding on the router, but yes.
