Why I don't use Craigslist

JoeCoke

Like seriously, everyone in my area is retarded. Just get a load of this.

Gee, I wonder why anyone would want to spam him...

I check CL just about weekly just in case, but I never see anything worth it. It's this kinda stuff and 2009 Macbooks for 600$.

And whenever there is something worthwhile, they're charging brand new prices for something they bought 3-4 years ago. Like, really?

It's not CL's fault obviously, it's that I live in bumfuck nowhere and everyone here is stupid.

I know this post is kinda pointless, I just had to see what others thought of this. :D

Even in NYC people overcharge. It's the nature of CL -- list high and negotiate down. There are a few good deals every now and again, but for the most part it's a lot of crap.

Might be relying on Amazon prices for deprecated listings that are based on automated pricing algorithms.

I saw a 9800 Radeon Pro for 250$ USD yesterday.

I've had craigslist finds were I almost felt bad for how little I was paying.  I have also seen things like 7970's for $300

That's a bargain compared to this GeForce 8400 GS for $40.

https://sanantonio.craigslist.org/sop/6078123157.html

I think I paid $30 for an 8400 GS brand new in 2008 (of course for a non gaming system since it was a garbage card even then).

People are stupid, and some people take advantage of this and capitalize on it.

It's leftover stuff in warehouses that no one bothers to update the listing for. No one's buying.

Stores have them physically available to consumers, Consumerist frequently makes blog posts about their finds. Like a 2007 USB drive still being sold full price at Wal-Mart.

There's honestly a lot of people on craigslist that don't even know what they're selling.  Here in the Kansas City craigslist it's actually kind of the best I've ever seen a craigslist - about 3/10 ads are actually a somewhat decent price for the specs, but there are another 2/10 that post up a gaming system, don't list the specs, and say they don't know how to find the specs when you ask them.

And finally, there are those people who do understand exactly what they have and were at least caught up to PC hardware 3-5 years ago who have no idea what depreciation is. Like...for real, the 970s that I bought a year and a half ago are worth less than half what I paid for them. You're not going to get 80-90% what you paid for out of a computer that's 3 years old. It's just not going to happen.
