It would beat the 1500X but that is not where the 1500X competes. look at the price. For less than the cost of the 7600k you can get a 1600 which is a 6c/12t budget beast. Which is not only great value also includes a decent stock cooler which means you don't have to buy one like you do for the i5. The 1600 beats the 7600k hands down in every task except the i5 wins in some games, however the i5s 4 threads are already saturated at 95-100% usage which means frame drops, worse minimum frames, absolutely no chance of even considering streaming and lastly no room for growth for when future games are more demanding. Whereas the 1600 is great today and has plenty to give in the future for less $.

= No contest.

EDIT: This point is well explained at the end of AdoredTVs Ryzen 1500X/1600X review where he compares it to the i5 and makes a pretty intelligent/thorough conclusion at the end

I wouldn't go with any i5 anymore imo.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

Yes, because it's 100$ more

the 1600/1600x compete with the 7600k

What even is this logic

No.  It costs more and has 1/3 the threads of a 1600.  Both can OC but the 7600k will swiftly become a relic of the past as games require a minimum of 6c and eventually more.

Pretty sure the 1st reply was sarcasm :P

Also yes the 2nd point I agree and have pretty much posted that above to try and explain to OP :)

What is what logic? The op essentially asked

what is better, a gtx 1070 or an rx 480?

theyre in totally different price brackets

Not a fair comparison when it should be R5 1600 vs. i5 6600K. If it was, I would go for the R5 1600 simply because of 0.1% and 1% minimums and the more consistent frametimes.

The age of quad core i5s is over.

What is your logic?

I am not arguing with you I'm stating that the 1500x doesn't compete with the 7600k, it competes with the locked i5s.

the reason being that if you were going to pay 230$ for a processor you should compare 2 230$ processors and not a 230$ and a 170$

7600k is better than the 1500x, but I'd say 1600 is more comparable when it comes to price.

Purely based on current gaming benchmarks only (not productivity), if you have to choose between an i5 and Ryzen for the same price, go with Ryzen.  If you're choosing between an i7 and Ryzen, however, go with the i7.

CPU -AMD R5 2600X @ 4.15 GHz / RAM - 2x8Gb GSkill Ripjaws 3000 MHz/ MB- Asus Crosshair VII Hero X470/  GPU- MSI Gaming X GTX 1080/ CPU Cooler - Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3/ PSU - Seasonic G-series 550W/ Case - NZXT H440 (Black/Red)/ SSD - Crucial MX300 500GB/ Storage - WD Caviar Blue 1TB/ Keyboard - Corsair Vengeance K70 w/ Red switches/ Mouse - Logitech g900/ Display - 27" Benq GW2765 1440p display/ Audio - Sennheiser HD 558 and Logitech z323 speakers

Which Ryzen?

Okay, now for the results. Conclusion exactly

Well 1500X is a cheap CPU that wins on the thread you know, with i5-7600K doesn't have 8threads (8t) and the Infinity Fabric that helps Ryzen Speeds up with high frequency RAM. It should be same or more because XFR is on the 1500X
