Can you do Dual Display with different resolution monitors and cables?

So here's the thing, i'm currently using a tv for my main display with HDMI cable, i found my old monitor in the basement, the old monitor was.. old? So it doesn't have hdmi and it has limited resolutions, so my question is.. is it possible to do a dual monitor setup if both monitor have different resolutions?

E.g my main main monitor (tv) is 1080p, while the old monitor is capped at 720p max

Yes you can, just get like a like adapter to whatever output you have on your graphics card

You can. Just keep in mind that Windows (or any OS) doesn't see the size of the monitor and only relates the two by resolution. This means that if you pair a 4K with a 1080, you're going to have the mouse move from the top of the 1080 (as an example) to the middle of the 4K panel.

Thanks guys! Especially Arikozum, an excellent example from the pairing, i didn't know that it will actually do that, i thought the corner from 720p will go to the corner of 1080p at the same exact spot, i was wrong xD

Yes, multiple monitors are completely independent and do not have to be related in any way.

You can set the positions of the monitors in any way you'd like. I just made one example.

These are all perfectly valid screen arrangements. Warning: Picture heavy.

But you won't be able to do a surround setup (having both monitors display your game) though but if that's not your interest then your fine

Well, he could imitate surround effect with some games. BF1 I have in windowed mode and expand each side to my other two monitors, so I get a "surround" experience without having to put my monitors in nvidia surround.

Sure though I don't have the border correction, but it doesn't really bother me too much

I tested this method in:

Factorio    - Works

BF1          - Works

BF4          - Works

Minecraft  - Works

Forza Horizon   - NOPE

Oh and if he has a 4k and a 1080, he would have to put the game on the 1080 first and expand it to the 4k one x) he will have 1/4 of the 4k screen taken and the rest for other purposes hahahahha

But how? INI edit? Resizing the window? Is it permanent?

Oh by expanding I mean resizing the window. sadly it is not permanent, but it's not too long to do (takes about 5seconds max).

The game sees the window has a higher resolution and will update accordingly (in good games)
