2nd GPU installed now nothing?

I just installed a 2nd GTX 1080 on my MSI AMD x370 Pro Carbon and now my system won't show on the monitors, 1st card in the x16 slot put 2nd GPU in the x8 slot both cards show power but the debug shows GPU fault did I miss something I unplugged not removed the new card in x8 slot to see if 1st card would start up but nothing tried plugging monitors into new card and old card but nothing I must be missing something? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh the HB bridge was out of stock I have the one that came with the board does it matter which connector its on there are 2 on each card the the bridge is only for 1

can you try only your new card? and please completely remove the other card and not just unplug it.

Also try both PCIe slots.

Sure can thats in the x8 slot do you mean move it to the x16 slot and try it?

Removed the new card tested original card in x16 slot works, new card in x16 slot works must have to do with populating the x8 slot can't find anything to suggest that its disabled or anything due to m.2 or anything like that so not sure what to do next?

Now it boots up but windows does not see it and the rgb control also does not see it either very frustrating?

why does it boot up? what did you change?

You could try to go into the bios and see if the pcie slot is diabled.

Does GPU-z see the card?

I got to be honest I don't think I did anything to make it finally boot other than pulling it out a couple times I almost feel like by removing the card it helped make better contact but that's as far as I've gotten, I have looked close to see if there was some type of coating or something on the fingers but don't see anything. I realized that the rgb was not synced and could not change it in the rgb console so I went into the Nvidia console and it's not showing up in that so I went into device manager and it only shows 1 card present, I deleted and reinstalled the driver but no go can't seem to find anything related in the BIOS to change. I did test both cards by themselves in the x8 slot and other than the image being of a different pixel size they both worked in that slot so the journey continues. Was hoping someone with this board would chime in just seems like it's me missing something.

Well tried everything I know and have read to no avail less any input on here I currently have a wonderful looking paperweight on my desk my next move since the card is operating normally in the primary slot is to upgrade the mobo when I get the money guess its a good excuse as any to stock up for a second build

Can anyone see any issues here with the attachment that may be what I'm missing namely when both slots PCI E2 and PCI E4 on my motherboard (MSI x370 Pro Carbon) are populated with the 2 graphics (ASUS GTX 1080's) cards according to my boards manual I should be running x8 in both slots but it appears to me as though the second slot is running at x4 is that what I'm seeing (sorry not familiar with aida64) also not as much information for the second card as for the first but I figure that may be due to the trial version or something? I have the M.2 slot with my boot drive but I have gone through the book and I don't see anything regarding the slot sharing lanes or bandwidth with any other slot/sata port?

Are you trying to power both gpu's off 1 cable or do you have 2 cables coming from your psu ?

 

also is your bios updated ?

I have a 750 watt fully modular PSU (Thermaltake) so each card has its own set of cables from the PSU and just flashed the BIOS this afternoon but no improvement at all from the BIOS was hoping to at least get my ram at 3200

wierd  idk man you could try removing the m.2 (if its not your boot drive) to see if its taking that pci bandwidth

slots 2 and 4 arent affected if those are the ones he's using

I was going to do that even though I cannot find anything stating that but it runs like a bear on 1 card and wasn't looking forwards to digging that deep I plan on another build so I think I'll just try and see if an answer comes up other than an RMA which I won't do I'll just use this board for the families daily driver and wait a few and see if some better boards come out in the near future

Yes tried with the supplied bridge but no go if you open the text attachment it looks like for some reason the x8 slot (PCI E4) is showing that its running at x4 but I'm not well versed on aida64 so not sure if that's what I'm reading?

Here's something strange I have only 1 card in the x16 slot and while navigating the BIOS to see if there were any noticeable changes in the update I noticed that the board is showing that it's running x4 instead of x16? is this right or a glitch?

phone but do both cards run at x4 in the second slot?

 

someone else had this issue where their card actually made full contact with the board because it rested on the sata ports.

can you go into bios and change settings to gen 3 and 16x

 

they might be in other spots

I've searched the BIOS but I'm not finding anything related to PCIe as some other boards seem to have? I've posted on MSI's forum but nothing so not sure, it just doesn't like 2 cards populating the board. And I did the latest BIOS flash hoping that the GPU issue they worked on would help but not to be.

Not sure what they run at in the x8 slot is there some benchmark that will definitively show what the slot is running at?

Well still at it another question I just looked at my updated pcpartspicker list and realize that it is upwards of. 600+ watts and i don't know if all the items listed are included in the total wattage, my power supply is only 750 watts could this result in the second card not working properly?

No, booting up the cards should register as they are intended. Power shouldn't matter for that even though a quality 750 is enough according to people on here.
