So to start i tried buying a gaming laptop (acer predator 17) with constant problems with the screens and other stuff ect, I thought why not build a desktop instead seeing as i don't move the computer at all.

I made a pc partpicker list by going through microcenter parts and putting the same parts on the list i just want some opinions on the build.

Am i missing anything,  once this is put together will it run cool enough while gaming that i can get a long life span out of it and any other advice would be great.

Currently the microcenter price is $1211 but there is probably over $100 in rebates.

I went with the z270 mobo because pc part picker said i would have problems updating bios for the kaby lake cpu on the z170 without a spare cpu which i don't have.

Might want to add in some case fans but over all I think it looks very solid. However, if you aren't very interested in overclocking then I would save some money by switching out the motherboard and CPU, but if that is your thing, looks solid.

I would however suggest this m.2 SSD instead. Way bigger for same price, I use a crucial one and it is great. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/34Nypg/crucial-mx300-525gb-m2-2280-solid-state-drive-ct525mx300ssd4

Looks pretty good for you first time parting out a build. Just a couple things, keep in mind you will probably want to buy Windows which adds in some cost. Also the motherboard is overkill unless you're going to want to upgrade to an unlocked K processor from the same generation, as the main point of the Z chipset is to overclock unlocked processors.

What are you using the computer for, though? Because if it's anything intensive other than gaming (video/photo editing, rendering, livestreaming, etc.) then I would go with a Ryzen 5 processor. They perform similarly in games to an Intel i5 and MUCH  better in those other things I listed, for the same price.

-Would rather get 1600 as better mins for a little cheaper

-nvme ssd is useless for just os and apps, get sata instead

-get 580 instead

-could get better psu.

Will make a list rn.

So i don't plan on overclocking right away i want to wait i think it will perform fine for games like Prey, Wildlands, Bf1.

I went with the overclocked parts because microcenter did not carry a i5 7600 non k so i figured if i'm grabbing a k processor spend the extra bit for the board and OC down the line when things get more demanding. Also may update GFX card in the future so i don't want problems on that end.

I'm currently swapping out parts with some of what is suggested

@fatido any fan recommendations that would work with that case?

Got a 1080 in the list too :P

Reason for the RAM is it's b-die so it should OC nicely, and RAM speed matters for Ryzen.

Get a RX 580 instead. (ASUS ROG STRIX or ZOTAC)

keep the 960 evo and add a 1TB SATA drive

get a H270 or B250 with a i7-7700 (could keep the hyper evo 212)

Lower the RAM speeds to 2400mhz with a CAS lantency of 15 or below

I have trouble with the idea of swapping to Ryzen, and i am a nvidia fan but that may only be because i have no experience with amd gfx cards.

I will add 2 140m fans as recommended

the S340 comes with 2 fans, you can remove the one on the top and mount it on the front for airflow. don't really need extra fans unless it's overheating/you want extra overclocking headroom.

Here are my suggestions:

1. You should get 6700K/7700K if budget allows
2. 212 EVO is mediocre, get Cryorig H7 or any other decent air coolers from Cryorig, Noctua and Be Quiet!
3. Thermal paste not necessary (if you want then it's OK)

4. Personally, I don't trust MSI mobos as I feel that they have lower quality. Asus or Gigabyte would be my choice. Anyway, keep it if you like the colour scheme
5. Why not RX480/580 8GB at a lower price?
6. Get Windows from Kinguin

Also, get a decent case with included case fans so that you don't have to buy extra fans

This is a pretty good build tbh and could handle most things u throw at it. I would look into getting a after market cooler tho for being able to overclock the r5 if the motherboard supports it (don't remember what ones do and don't sorry)

A320 is the only one that doesn't support OCing, this is B350. The stock cooler is enough to do some light overclocking so that shouldn't be too bad.

Yeah but the price point of the hyper 212 evo is pretty great and Is praised because of the profmace per dollar is crazy high. The 25 or 30$ for it is well worth the price if it fits in the case and you are overclocking imo

The Wraith coolers are already pretty decent, I recall the Wraith Max being equivalent in performance to the 212 evo while only being a bit louder. A 212 evo isn't really worth the buy if you have a wraith cooler IMO, it's only something H7 or above that is worth it.
