Overwatch - High cpu usage and low gpu usage.

Go to solution Solved by c0d0ps,

Update:

My new ram stick has come (another 1x8 GB same model) so now I have dual channel ram 16 GB (2x8 GB) instead of single channel ram (1x8 GB).

Overwatch still has high cpu (around 90% to 95%) usage but gpu usage is higher now and my lowest fps is around 152 to fps on lowest settings 75% render scale. Average fps is around 200 fps. I'll do more testing and then I'll answer any questions if someone had similar problems.

So far it seems like my performance is fixed. Dual channel 2133 MHz (motherboard doesn't allow higher) ram makes a noticeable difference at 144 Hz compared to 2133 MHz single channel ram. It is also worth checking your power saving settings though.

Was this a new thing for you? Maybe after some new afterburner update?

Also, how much ram did you have when you lost 10GB to afterburner?

Hmm. I don't think I have heard of it.

Should I try the newest driver for my gpu after fresh install?

I don't usually use Afterburner, and I keep it and Riva Statistics updated

it went from ~6GB to ~10 - I have 16GB in the system

After having spent 2+ hours reading about it (only counting today) ram speed seems to matter a lot in Overwatch if you want a lot of fps. I'm going to order another 1x8GB ram and test if I have any difference.

Not sure what to do with cpu usage but this might help with gpu usage. I'm thinking about (locked) i7 but i'll start with ram (same mobo max 2133mhz ram-speed).

Try disabling HPET in the bios, for some reason in mid fights i also had this problem where the gpu would drop its usage to really low values, so yesterday i came across this video that explained how hpet can really lower your performances in game, and so i gave it a try.
First of all i tried overwatch with hpet on against a.i, and i always kind of felt that the game was running really bad overall, input lag, pretty low fps which is weird cause i have a pretty decent video card.
After i turned off hpet, got into another game and the difference was clearly noticeable, also had like a 20fps increase overall and the game felt way more responsive than it felt before.
HPET : The High Precision Event Timer (HPET) is a hardware timer used in personal computers. It was developed jointly by AMD and Microsoft and has been incorporated in PC chipsets since circa 2005. Formerly referred to by Intel as a Multimedia Timer, the term HPET was selected to avoid confusion with the multimedia timers as a software feature introduced in the MultiMedia Extensions to Windows 3.0.  SOURCE : WIkiped
Also every windows from xp sp3 to 7 is using hpet so might just try and turn that off and experience it yourself.

Having faster speed (dual channel and or higher mhz) ram helped me. But I guess I can try this out to someday. Overwatch really like dual channel.
