RX 460 or GTX 1050 non-Ti.

I'd honestly save more to get the GTX 1050 Ti.

Try finding a used GTX 970?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-Strix-GTX-970-4GB-Model-STRIX-GTX970-DC20C-4GD5-/142357340571?hash=item212528a19b:g:FcYAAOSwBOtY-mOg

Here's on on eBay at 125$.  This is not my card nor am I specifically recommending this listing, just referencing it as evidence the card can be found near your price range.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

Yes, but the i3 would limit the 970.

So you're saying you'd rather buy a slower card for the same price simply because the CPU couldn't keep up?  I could totally understand if you brought up the risks of buying used hardware and the lack of warranty, but the CPU shouldn't matter when comparing graphics speed at the same price.

I'm saying it's not worth buying anything at the moment. Better to save up, buy a CPU and card at the same time so you benefit from both.

Also the 970 is just a horrible investment. low memory and older architecture.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

The 970 isn't half bad. It's better than an RX 480 (I believe, don't quote me on that), and for $125 that's an absolute steal.

Oh wait no I was thinking of the 470 vs 970, my bad. Yeah, I believe the 970 and 480 trade blows in benchmarks.

If you're wanting to play BF1, you definitely want to upgrade CPU also. If it's the main game you're gonna be playing a lot, get a ryzen. If not, pick a midrange intel CPU. As for GPU, get something like an RX 480/580

So I should buy a used i5 on eBay and get a better GPU

What's your budget for a CPU? And yes, get a better GPU. Like I said, an RX 480/580 perhaps?

Well what's the max you're willing to spend on a cpu/gpu combo?

It's pretty much on par with 480 and runs 30 to 60 bucks cheaper but without warranty.  AMD does offer better long term software support than Nvidia though so in a year or two the 480 will probably have a performance advantage of 10% or so then, but likely only in new titles.

The problem is the RX 480 si clearly out of the budget of the OP.  Even the used GTX 970 is almost 20 bucks over his 100-120 budget he mentioned.

I can squeeze out max for gpu about $170

True, AMD products do tend to age better.

Damn, that's a pretty tight budget for a GPU

I'd recommend a 1050 ti, but you said it wasn't an option. Speaking of which, why is the 1050 ti not an option?

The 970 is not on par with the RX 480. Not even a thermal limitied reference model. Far better to wait and get a 580 or 1060.

I'm really trying to make it budget as possible but as I can see that's not possible,  the Ti is probably the best one to get

Budget is possible, but you're gonna get pretty bad fps if you wanna spend that low. Yeah, Ti is the best option tbh. If you can save up a little more, i'd recommend a 480, seeing as you'll get way better fps for the money, but if you can't, get the 1050ti.
