I'm currently designing a quiet gaming PC build, and I want to get a good mix between silence and performance. For my case, I currently have a be quiet! Dark Base 900 selected, but I was also considering a Corsair Carbide 400Q. Anyone know how these cases perform in terms of noise canceling, room, etc?

Maybe Fractal Design R5 if you like cleaner looks.

The best silent case is one you build yourself.

DIYPerks demonstrated his on his YT channel. Go check that out. It's cool even if you decide against it.

I neither have the materials, nor the time to build my own case. Otherwise, I would. Thanks for the info though

The R5 is very clean looking, and a great option. I might just get that

The hardware inside and fans play a bigger role than the chassis. For example, my Fractal Core 500 is quieter without dampening than the Define R4 I used to have.

That Define R4 had more fans and a louder graphics card. Even Noctua fans are loud in a sound dampened case if running max rpm.

Because it isn't nearly that loud. Maybe I'm deaf and this really is a big problem but as of now I don't think it is.

It really is. When I power up my PC, my family can hear it even though I have the door closed and they're watching tv.

In my case, I don't use headphones often and the ones I do use have open backs. And I still have my hearing such that I can easily hear the drone of a 35dBA or so fan a few feet away.

Np!

Using a 140mm for my intake on this itx and it's my fav fan on the market. For reference, I've dealt with Corsair, Phanteks and Noctua fans and the Fractal Venturi does it for me for price to performance.

I'm kind of a Noctua fanboy as far as CPU coolers go, but god, do they look ugly :(

A silent case can make quiet components quieter. It won't help if you have loud components.

fractal-define-c-noise

It didn't matter if the Pure Base 600 or Fractal Design Define C had their noise reducing panels in; at the same fans speeds, the cases put off roughly the same amount of noise.

Noctua's customer support makes up for that lol, but if you want prettier air coolers, Cryorig is nice. ?

True haha. I've always had great experiences with their customer support. That, and the quality of their coolers, is why I love them so much. And I've never really checked out Cryorig. What's the performance on their coolers like? I want something as quiet as the NH-D15, and delivers the same performance without being ugly as hell :P.

Using the H7 in my build and that is basically a more compact 212 evo that cools a little better. To match the Austrian giant, go for either the H5 or R1

Want you really want for a system to be silent is a combination of unrestricted airflow and quiet hardware. The case really can't quiet down your hardware that much. My system is much quieter with my NZXT S340 and three fans than it was with my Nanoxia Deep Silence 4 and two fans since the Nanoxia's airflow was so restricted despite the whole case being very thick metal with sound dampening foam on the sides.

That said, the Define S has great airflow and is thick and has foam so that would be a good choice.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Yeah, but isn't the 212 evo weaker than the D15 in terms of cooling? I want quite a bit of OC headroom

I know this. I currently have the best combination between silence and power available for what I want in terms of components. The only thing left to decide on was the case, and I was having a tough time, so I asked LTT forums :)

And i'm thinking of getting the Fractal R5

From that question i'm guessing you never had the privilege of owning a pc in the 1990s.

If you ever had a pc that sounded like a vacuum cleaner then you will understand.
