New Build -- High End -- Opinions Please!

Hello All,

This would be my first computer build since I was a Freshman in High School.  That was the year 2000.  SO, please give me your thoughts on the below parts list.  Should I add something, change something?  My main use for the PC will be gaming in 4k.  I didn't go with a 6800 or 6850 because it appears the 7700 does quite a bit better on benchmarks.  Also, even though, say, the 6850 has 40 lanes, this really wouldn't provide a noticeable improvement to the 2 1080s, correct?  I'm scared as hell to buy all these parts and screw something up on the build man!  Been a long time! Thanks for your thoughts/help guys!

Wait you want to pay 130$ for Windows 7? Also i would rather go with Ryzen 7

Where is CPU cooler?
PSU overkill
HDD overkill (Get WD Blue/Seagate Barracuda)
SSD a bit overkill
Mobo a bit overkill
Why Windows 7?

Recommend i7 Extreme CPUs for dual GPU setup

I don't know why Windows 7, I guess Windows 10 is good nowadays, eh?  Hated 8.  Would prefer to not go the AMD route.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure whether to get water cooled or not.  Recommendations?  I realize everything here may be a bit 'overkill', but as I said I wanted to allow for some future proofing, meaning I don't want to have build a new computer for as long as possible.  I can overclock, don't think it would be necessary to get an Extreme edition anything.

CPU cooler - Get air coolers, AIO not worth it. Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
PSU - EVGA G2/G3
HDD - WD Blue 2TB/Seagate Barracuda 2TB

IMO, CPU and GPU are the ONLY components that can future proof. Invest more on them.

You should be looking at the Samsung 960 Pro or Evo M.2 drives instead of the 951.

The psu is almost twice what is needed. Consider an EVGA P2, G2, or G3 750W or 850W. Corsair RMx are also very good.

Are you sure that an hdd built to handle 24x7 heavy data center loads is going to do well in a light use desktop? It does not follow that a drive designed to be working constantly 24x7 is going to do well sitting idle most of the time.

Unless there are particular features you intend to use in Windows Pro, you may as well get the standard version.

I would suggest getting non FE gpu. They will run quieter and cooler.

The Corsair H100i v2 or Nzxt Kraken X62 AIO cpu coolers are good options.

Did you consider any of the Phanteks cases?

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Thank you for the CPU Cooler examples, I'll check them out and review.  I'll also check out the HDD you have there.  I believe the CPU and GPUs I selected are pretty damn solid.  I am considering a 6850 setup which I could overclock, the price/performance ratio is just not there at the moment.  Thanks again.

I'll check out the Evo M.2 drives you speak of.  This tech is new to me (M.2), so bit of a learning curve there but I understand it is the newest best, so to speak.  I wasn't sure about my 2TB HDD selection, wasn't aware of the above.  I'll make that correction as well.  You think the PSU is overkill given the SLI setup?  Could save a $100 or so by going lower there, so let me know and I'll adjust course on that.  Roger that on WPRO and non FE GPU, good to know.  I'll check out the coolers as well.  I am completely oblivious when it comes to case selection.  I do know I want a full tower with good airflow options.  I don't want to have to worry about room, period.  I'll check out the Phantek line.  Great advice, thank you sir!

I was a little off on my power estimates. You should be looking at something around 1000W. (To allow for overclocking, etc.)

You can get any Windows key you prefer, it's not about the version it's about the price. You can buy a Windows key on online sites for much less money such as G2A or Kinguin
