Hey guys sometime in the summer (probably late august) I will be upgrading my GPU, before then hopefully around the middle of summer I am gonna upgrade my pc to a node 202 for smaller size and even though I love the performance of my little 960 from PNY I want to upgrade for many reasons, one being I want to get into VR and what I've seen from the 1060 6gb PNY or EVGA (PNY is a little cheaper) seems to look good my price range is from 0 - around 300 preferably 250 is the sweet spot  thoughts on gpu? am I better going for amd? ive seen benchmarks and I dont think i want the performance decrease of a 480 simply because of 50 bucks i feel a 1060 would also play nice with my i5 thoughts?

Specs Rn: i5 6600, pny gtx 960, 16gb ram, 1tb hhd soon to have an ssd and a b150m bazooka from msi also does 3gb of ddr5 ram for a 1060 matter?

id wait and look at the gpu market more near when you buy the gpu as it could be completely different from what it is now. there are even rumors of volta coming out later this year so i wouldn't even think about what gpu you should get so far away from now when you will probably change what you want to get by then.

Get a 480  or 1060, should be able to fit in nicely with your budget. (At this point it's up to whether you feel like you want to be on the green team or the read team).

But like everybody above me is saying, a 1070 mini would be great if you can find a deal on one.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

they said late august so i think availability will be better by then. that being said if they do end up upgrading in late august alot of other things could have changed by then too.

honestly you may want to wait for volta because it should be coming out late 2017 early 2018 at the latest. if the rumors are true then apparently nvidia is trying to launch volta ahead of schedule which would mean a 2017 launch rather than early 2018 launch. you can even save up more money for a gpu that way too.

yea but I dont really wanna wait for more than i have to becasue im selling most of my rig and just getting mostly new stuff besides cpu ram and gpu and im looking into selling my gpu for a new one and i dont think i can go long without a gpu I could try but my i5's Igpu can only handle csgo full everything barely 60 fps

the rumors state it may come out in Q3 this year which would be around the time you upgrade anyways.

since im fairly poor im not thinking about vr right now maybe in a year or two my parents will succumb to the idea and buy a headset for htpc/console tv hookup use as my pc will be very small.

I'd consider getting the Rift if money is an issue (hopefully your priorities are straight) as the Rift has some software "trickery" (though it actually is software that's useful) that will guess the frames when your hardware can't keep up for smoother gameplay.

For the GPU, I'd go with a 1060 6GB. The 3GB model isn't a good deal since the 1050 Ti does the same job.

For an 8 gigabyte? Not anymore (I've never seen them that inexpensive.) I've watched 5 vids comparing them to the 1060's. 2 the 580's edged out the 1060 , 2 the 1060 won by a wide margin (They were fanboy review sites though, where yet again the AMD's were underclocked if you look in the top left corner and the 1060's were oc'd; I hate that. Games like GTA V are included but games like RE 7 are left out), then 1 where it was a 5-5 tie. The 4 gig model pretty much always beats the 1060 3gb (70% of the time), but the fact is, whomever releases the latest drivers has the better card at the time, and it is too close to call. If the extra $10 to $20 usd isn't better spent and you prefer NVidea, go for it. If you prefer freesync and don't want to pay extra for a g-sync display go amd and get a better psu or whatever.

I'd go AMD even though I am annoyed with the fibs about lowering prices, thoughI did see a rx580 8 gig in stock at Newegg for $229.

Btw, never take Gamer's Nexus on Video card advice. Insanely biased towards NVidea. It's almost unbearable.

There is enough youth in this world, how about a fountain of smart?

Food on the table, employment, etc.

Things that will sustain your family vs a gaming system.

I'm not aiming the "sustain your family" at you specifically. If you have the choice, God forbid, between the Rift and great gaming experiences or food on the table, take the food.

This is a case of "needs vs wants" that I think is a valuable lesson to learn early like I did. Hell, if you grow like I did, you'll own a foreclosed home nearly fully paid off by 25.
