There is a 92mm noctua fan and it's the loudest thing in my rig during normal usage.

If its the newish slim one im kinda surprised. Maybe you have a pretty quiet rig. When I had mine out and plugged in it wasnt making all that much noise and I was surprised at how much air it was moving for a 92mm thin fan.

Like I said under normal usage (gaming) it's the loudest thing in my rig. If i fold or something it isn't but I don't fold as often as I game.

So your rig is quite then idk? you could try getting more air flow though the case and maybe it wont go as high or adjust the fan profile on the motherboard

I have plenty of airflow, the fan is connected to the CPU opt but for some reason despite being a 4 pin header it cannot control the RPM of the fan so it runs at max speed.

The auto fan control may not be enable in the BIOS by default possibly. Also any way that you can plug it into the CPU header?

CPU header has a fan attached to it, I can get around it by getting a 4 pin Y connector I just haven't yet.

Unless they are the same fans dont use it as your going to get weird things going on especialy if their PWM and have different rpms that they can use etc.

Does the other fan that plugged into the CPU fan header vary in speed? Also is it voltage controlled or PWM?

The fan plugged into the main CPU header is an SP120 so it's not PWM but I can control it via AI Suite. The only reason I really haven't done anything about it yet is because I would like to find a better solution, I don't want to have the smaller fan on my cooler but it needs to be there so the adapter clears my RAM

The voltage regulated SP120 is probably why the 92mm fan isnt getting regulated by PWM. Both CPU and CPU_OPT are regulated by the same thing in the BIOS and your asking them to regulate it two different ways which it probably cant do.

Where is the SP120 located and why isnt it just plugged into a case fan header?

Because it's on my CPU cooler, it's not an issue anymore. Talking about this got me thinking about it and I fixed it about 5 minutes ago.

Nice! I thought the 92mm was on your CPU cooler my bad.

That's my build log, it will show you what the deal is with my CPU cooler. I solved it by cutting the fan from the shroud on the 92mm fan, no idea what I didn't think about it before.

so you mounted the shroud right to the heatsink?

Well I plan on doing some gaming on here like League of Legends, some MMORPS games like Tera Rising and when Wildstar comes out, also BF4 and some steam games. I do want to play them on max graphics with no problems for a long period of time. Do you know of a build i can do that with under $1000 USD and using Intel/Nvidia build. That is not including peripherals and I do need a copy of windows. I don't mind using a Mid or Micro tower.

Noctua NH-L9i. Not good for OC though. @ has a good cooler for what OP's looking for.

Hey can you help me with some information on building a computer.

Why not AMD?

Btw, you can quote multiple posts and edit them too so you don't need to repeat things.

I mounted the 92mm fan shroud(minus the fan parts) onto the heatsink then the adapter to the shroud and then the SP120 to the adapter.
