Assassin's Creed 4

Should I play anything before playing assassins creed 4? Or is the story completley unrelated to the other games. How about AC3? I was thinking of buying AC3 and buying AC4 later when it's on sale.

No, just go straight into 4.

If you play your way to 4 you'll be bored to tears and not want to play 4, so do it backwards.

Maybe play the first and second ones. They are by far the best in the series so far?

Defo play the first one to get a sense of how the game works etc.

yes, but you can pretty much jump into any of the games with little knowledge.

see the problem is that all of them kind of have this bigger story that progresses. but as individual games they have their own story. i couldnt even play ac3 that much it just felt awful. starting ac4 and im ok with it

is it a significant relationship though? is it like a SC2 WoL to HoTS relationship( direct sequal)? or more like a SMT Devil Summoner 1 and 2 relationship(it references, but story doesn't relate)

No they aren't really direct sequels. Pretty much what needmorewood said fits how the story is
