Intel or Ryzen

Hey everyone,

I am currently still planning to build a gaming computer and wanted to ask which of the two build you would recommend, and if there are any improvements that could be made.

Are you doing anything other than gaming? If no, I'd say 7700k. Though m.2 isn't needed if you're only gaming.

 

Also the psu in the Ryzen build isn't too good.

is there any chance that with further optimisation in games that ryzen might be able to overtake the 7700k in gaming?

Yes, though for all games to have this happen it's gonna probably take another 2 years.

 

Ashes got optimizations for it and now Ryzen performs better than the 7700k, but we can't say for other games.

 

It depends a lot on what games you play. If you play a lot of GTA V I'd suggest Intel as it doesn't like Ryzen that much.

Nobody plays ashes.

And it is literally one of like 5 games that need more than 8 cores.

If your video editing software supports multiple cores, go for a Ryzen, if it doesn't, get the Intel, as it has a higher clock speed.

Yeah ik I was just using it as an example that Ryzen could be optimized at least in some games.

ill probably go for whatever is available and cheaper in my country then ^^ one would think that living in china computer parts would be cheaper and easy to come by however this sadly isnt true...

If you game over 90% of the time I'd say 7700k.

There is no such thing as "optimizing for games".

The dev either codes the game to use many cores, or not.

99% of the time having more than 8 cores is useless because you cannot subdivide a game's processes that many times unless it's a heavy calculation game such as ashes.

This means that pretty much all normal games will not benefit from more than 8 cores, now or in the future.

My guess is in ashes they optimized cross CCX traffic, not something else.

 

EDIT: Just clarifying I'm saying it IS possible, if you look at how much ram makes a difference in games Ryzen performs poorly at compared to ones it doesn't there's a huge difference, though I still doubt devs will do anything.

would you think that triple A games in the future will be utilizing more than 4 cores or is that only necessary for games that do heavy calculations such as ashes?

8 cores (aka threads) of an i7 will be enough for all games in the next half decade.

You should go intel. It sounds like most of what you'll be doing is gaming. It's not like a 7700K can't render video too.
