So, i'm thinking off buying new ram because one of the games I'm playing is using like 90% of my ram and I get massive fps drops in certain areas and I'm kind of stuck between 16gb of Dominator platinum @ 3000mhz or Vengeance LPX 16gb @3200mhz. I'm thinking of going with the Dominator but not sure if the higher mhz will be better.

What games are you playing? How much are you multitasking? I dont usually go over about 10Gb with 25~ chrome tabs and a few other apps open too (Discord, steam, ect).

Edit: DW, misread, thought you already had 16Gb. Yes, I would recommend getting more, much better for multitasking. Speed doesn't make that much of a difference, 3000Mhz will be more than enough (I have 2400 and i'm fine).

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

What is your current system specifications now (e.g. CPU, motherboard, power supply, GPU, etc)??

The Corsair 'Dominator' kits will typically have a price premium as it is their "top of the line...hand picked" RAM chips.

DDR4 2666 MHz ~ 3200 MHz range is the current sweet spot.

Anything outside of this range is (usually above 3200 MHz) is not worth the extra cost.

You need to find the balance of high frequency and low latency / timings.

3200 MHz with CAS 18 timings is going to be worst than a 3000 MHz kit with CAS 14 timings.

Which two SPECIFIC kits are you looking at?

AMD Ryzen 9000 Rig

  • AMD R7 9800X3D + Alphacool CORE 1 w/ Performance Mount Kit + Thermal Grizzly AM5 Contact Frame

Personally with that amount of money you could grab a decent 32GB kit for similar price. MHZ doesn't result in higher FPS.

I was asking for the kit model number...

Luckily, Corsair only has ONE 16GB (2 x 8GB) 'Dominator' kit with DDR4 3000 MHz specs...CMD16GX4M2B3000C15.

However, I am unable to find exactly WHICH LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200 MHz you are looking at...As there are SEVEN different kits available...With different colours and RAM timings.

Both are pretty close.

You wouldn't really notice the extra 200 MHz boost for most games / applications.

What is the price difference between the two kits?

Do you have a brand preference?

Any colour preference?

There may be better alternative kits available for around the same price range (e.g. different Corsair kits, or G.Skill, Kingston, etc).

Theyrr basically the same price just mainly wanted extra input seeing if the extra mhz would help.

Do pref corsair atm, since i havent had any issue with their stuff and also heard the Dominator platnium is really good ram. But open to suggestions. And no colour preference.

Most memory manufacturers are just as good -- all should have lifetime warranty by now (e.g. Corsair, G.Skill, Kingston, etc).

RAM usually works 100% or fails right away.

In this case, I'd probably get a set of RAM with better timings rather than a kit with every so slightly higher frequency, and a higher latencies.

I've only personally use Corsair and G.Skill RAM myself...but started sliding to the G.Skill side a bit more within the last ~3 years.

The Corsair Dominator Platinum kit that you are looking at are going for $145.89 USD.

There is a all-black G.Skill RipJaws V kit going for $149.99 (red coloured also going for the same price)

G.Skill TridentZ RGB kit for $139.99

I was trying to find a 3200 MHz kit with CAS 15 timings, but you are going to need to pay $20~$30 extra...IMO, not worth it.

There's a bunch of CAS 15 DDR4 3000 MHz kits for under $120 or less, though

Corsair LPX DDR4 3000 MHz, 15-17-17-35-2T

Alright, basically what you're saying is when buying ram, look for lower timings but a higher CAS timing? and with info provided and that im understanding this correctly. I'll definitely look into the RipJaws V kit

You want timings/latencies/CAS to be low.

But yes, the RipJaws V seems to be the better option in that price range.
