290x Dead already?? Really??

okay so last night I was playing ghosts and after about 30-45min my pc just shut off like the power went out....it restarted itself but I had no video output.

 

I tried everything.....restarting...unplugging and leaving it for a bit...changing pci slots...switching the bios switch....but I still get a vga led on my mobo and get a error 62

 

now I just got this 290x this week....had the waterblock on....was enjoying very low temps 50c at load.

 

now, I think it was overclocked....but it was not much.  I think it was 15% gpu and 10% mem....so 1150mhz and 1375mhz...

 

max power was set to 0% (so no increase for power)...

 

 

I just don't see how this thing could fry when it was maxing around 50c at full load.

 

I didn't get any artifacts when playing or anything....the pc just shut off and now the gpu is dead I believe.

 

I just popped in one of my old 4870s and im typing this so its not the mobo being screwy.

 

 

is this thing seriously dead??   anyone know any kind of tricks or something I could try....

 

this is a real PITA...I just expanded my loop and had it all hooked up now it gotta drain it and get a new card, bs

 

I guess I will rma it obviously.....but I just cant believe it happened..... fucking ghosts piece of shit game....dosent look any better but it requires so much for it to run wtf lol

Make sure water did NOT leak, this sounds exactly like a short circuit caused by your water-loop.

50c under load? I get 30 under 100% load but then again I guess 290x runs hotter than 780. What this sounds like to me was a leak or you might've messed up your thermal pads and fried your ram or VRM. Have you tried getting rid of your OC completely and running it stock?

He has a swiftech H220, you have two double rads.

Spannerhands's 290X runs at 39C with an overclocked FX 9590.

they dont need to know there was a waterblock installed op can just reinstall stock cooler and rma with saying card died when he was playing games.

yea its not a leak....that was the first thing I thought and flipped the power switch and ripped the case open....no leaks.

block was installed correctly and thermal pads were in the proper place.

 

ill be able to rma....they cant tell if it was overclocked if its dead....I saved everything so I can just throw the heasink and pads back on...

A GPU doesn't just die, something must have gone wrong, you have to inspect the PCB yourself to asses possible damage.

50c is pretty high, mine only gets up to about 44 now that I've gotten all the air out of the loop. That's with only a 110mhz overclock though.

I believe it's because he uses a h220 as said above somewhere.

ive seen gpus just died...

 

specially the 7870, i got returned like 5/50, because blackscreens, bluescreens, and dead gpus

I added a second rad when I put the block in

 

I think I got almost all the air out....I took my time and had it in all sorts of positions to get the air out. I knew I was good as the pump got quieter to the point it was like when it came stock...

 

I would think I run a few degrees warmer because of the tighter case and airflow restrictions.

30C on a high end card almost defies the laws of physics. I'm pretty sure you have lower ambiances than him.

yeah I live in canada lol. Also I found out he has an H220 which explains how his temps are higher.
