Intel 7700K worth it?

I'm looking into processors for my high-end PC build, and I dropped my eyes on Kabylake line of processors.

I'm not going to overclock it, but I see an extra 5 fps improvement in 7700K, should I spend the money or just go with the normal 7700?

You should also consider the extra cost from aftermarket CPU cooler, Z170/270 mobos etc. The normal 7700 is powerful for almost any needs.

If you have no interest in overclocking the CPU just get the normal 7700 and OC your GPU to gain those extra 5 FPS.

I did that, I cheap up on mobo and used stock cooler with the 7700, if your GPU is high end enough you'll be more than fine, both processors, locked and unlocked, are a beast.

What GPU do you have?

And are you only gaming? And at what resolution?

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

sooooo. let me get this straitttttt....you bought a 1080 ti to game on while pushing a 60hz 1080p monitor .......hmmmmmm, and a 7700 to video edit instead of a 8 core 12 thread rysen.......hmmmmm

the 7700 is very good at everything and not a bad choice at all don't get me wrong

and the 1080 ti, well it doesn't come much better

but you pair all that with .... a 1080p 60hz monitor....

it hurts me, ... physically, ... seriously, ... it burns

If you already own the 7700, It's fine.

The fact that you do Production work and don't have a R7 is a bit disappointing however...

Is it acceptable? Yes.

Is it Optimal? No.

If you're planning on upgrading the system, sell the Intel stuff and get the Ryzen. The 7700K Doesn't make sense unless you're 100% gaming, full stop. As it is though, Unless that's the path, the 7700 is solid and I don't see that much point in getting rid of it at this point. So No, the 7700K Isn't worth it in your case.

I only do a bit of production work, a bit, just a bit, like 10-15%, so is it worth it in this case?

Does any production you do hold up other things? If So, Ryzen.

Otherwise, stick with the 7700, as the 7700k will only net you between 1-10 frames more in gaming at best without overclocking, on titles that care about CPU. Not really worth it. The difference between 180 and 190 FPS isn't really a good reason to change things up.
