no, the i3 7100 would be better as it's 200MHz faster, but you mightn't notice that much

if that's the case why not go for the 6100 if it is cheaper?

In terms of pricing, both should be fairly similar.

Getting the cheaper one would probably be the best if you plan on buying.

generally they aren't, it's better to go with Kaby Lake because in most cases it's around the same price (give or take $5) and 200MHz is still 200MHz, on lower end hardware it might make more of a difference, I'm not sure as I own neither of these CPUs, but I have an i5 6400.

Thanks this should make life easier.Because I was unsure about hyperthreading

Well, four logical processors is better than two physical cores but not a replacement for four physical cores, but if you're stuck on a budget the Pentium G4650 delivers a lot of the bang that the i3 does but for a bit less, but the i3 7100 is still better.
