Hello everyone,

I am looking to upgrade my computer from:

FX- 8320

EVGA 960 ACX 2.0

gigabyte 78lmt-usb3

To:

i5 7600K (also "waiting for Ryzen (R5 1600X)" to see what happens...)

MSI 980 ti

MSI Z270-A PRO ATX LGA1151

and a set of DDR4 ram

This will be my gaming machine, I will not be editing videos or streaming, etc.

I currently have an EVGA 600W +80 bronze PSU and a 1 TB Seagate HDD and I am wondering if I will be able to overclock since the 980ti has a minimum requirement of a 600 watts. I'm looking to do a low/modest overclock. I appreciate any ideas!

I would get a better PSU. Not for power reasons, but for quality reasons

Yeah you should be able. Is it EVGA 600B1?

I'd go with a 750 as well. How much are the 980 ti's where you are, as here they are between $335 and $395; used! Once in awhile I'll see one at $300 usd, but it is rare. Since the 1070's are down to $350 it surprises me how many people are getting 980 ti's. I get the 970 upgrades as they run $100-$135 usd, so yeah, the 980 ti prices just baffle me.

I'd get a 7700 non K and B250 Mobo, you can see as much as 20 fps more from an i7 over an i5 clocked really high 4.8Ghz and more i5 is still beaten by the i7.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Someone else suggested getting a cheaper board and a locked i7, I'm going to do the same as it's a night and day difference in games like Overwatch, for example.

That said, yes, upgrade your PSU. An EVGA 650G3/G2 should do fine.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Ok, so it looks like I need to upgrade the PSU as well... that's why it always good to ask! Thank you all for your input and it looks like I should make some other considerations for my gaming machine (i.e. Mobo, cpu) too.

I would consider buying a RYZEN 1600 (non X) a B350 Mobo (asrock preferably) and some high Mhz RAM with official support, Ask if you need RAM recommendations.  Instead of fa 980 ti I'd get a 1070 or 1080 unless you can get the 980 ti under 300ish bucks US. (IE if its cheaper than a 1070.)

A buddy of mine is upgrading his rig and sold it to me for 150 usd... He had it for a little over a year. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time!

Yikes. Can I buy it from you for $175+shipping? I won't turn around and flip it on eBay, honest...

Wish my friends were like that. I get  *-Automated voice-* "You have a direct call, from the Dartmouth House of Corrections. To accept charges press..." I say I gotta PC again and they think someone is after me and I'm staying home (PC=Protectice Custody). Lol, for real.

Yeah I would pass on using that with a 980 Ti.
