http://www.reddit.com/r/gamingpc/comments/1pi3wz/watercooled_my_290x/ so this guy throws a waterblock on his 290x and gets some crazy low temps along with pretty nice clocks

I have no idea what TDP i'm hitting. By the way the lights in the room are dimming during Firestrike, I probably don't want to know where its at

Put them in 4-way crossfire and your neighborhood is dark ;)

If it helps my cold bedroom allowed me to hit 1075MHz Core / 1425MHz Mem. And has been stable since, fan hits 55% under max load but is within bearable ranges.

There was news the other day that said the 290 and 290x perform their best at a temp of 95c.

So buying a waterblock is kind of useless.

Well yeah, no that obiously bullshit, dimming lights lol, I would blame the cabling in his house then, that thing pulls much, but not that much.

Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

That post was bullshit, they said it throttles down if you don't allow the card to get up to 95°, but if my cooling solution is good enough that it can't even reach my max temp threshold, then it doesn't need to slow down. Better cooling solutions are the only way to go on a 290/x.

Well, a typical room will be on a 15 amp circuit which would be 1800 watts, and I'm going to assume he has other things on that circuit beside the computer. If he is pulling around 800 watts on the computer, that doesn't leave much overhead for everything else, as a lot of times two or more rooms will be on the same circuit.

That's still 1000W overhead, there are not a lot of things in a normal household that have more or as much power draw as an PC.

And putting things like fridges, ofen's etc. on the same cirtuit wouldn't be that clever anyway. So yeah, if that actually happens, it's still not the problem of the card, but more of his cabling.

That

His one was sarcasm, but he probably thougt the original one was not, that's what I was commenting on actually.

not really because it runs cooler you can push more voltage and more clock speeds to bring the temp back up making it faster
