Hi all, I am a photography and in the process of building a new PC. I could use some help regarding storage.

my proposed workflow :

500gb ssd for boot/programs/adobe suite

1Tb ssd for data, downloads, current photo/video projects etc...

X2 4Tb HDD WD Black/Red (or any suggestions) setup in RAID 1 for backup/redundancy

(or)

same thing but in a WD NAS setup.

Aslo thinking of an m.2 , in place of one of the 2.5 ssd's would its increased speed be better running photoshop or holding the raw files?

Working off the 1 TB ssd and once projects are finished they will be backup up to the HDD. I'm not very experienced in this stuff but I would appreciate any feed back you may have regarding the sizes I should have for the Ssd (is 500gb overkill for boot, adobe, games?) and same question for the 1Tb ssd if it will be getting auto backed up to the HDD. I'm looking for a efficient and easy to use setup, price is a factor but I'm flexible.

Also, I'm currently using dropbox to share files, does having a NAS improve speed of file sharing? As in, I have an employee who currently has to come to my office with an external HD to get the raw files from me since uploading them to Dropbox would take forever. Does having a NAS help me with the ability to get him files faster? So that he can work completely remote.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't recommend exporting to SSD...

why not? wont hurt the ssd at all

For the work flow id put all current projects on ssd, esp the catalog file

Id get 2.5 drives, nvme won't be any faster and just cost more for this use

Id stay away from raid 1 here and just use backups on external drives.

Why do you recommend not going RAID 1? since I'm not experienced in this stuff I was considering a WD My Cloud which has and easy to setup raid setting.

Im just trying to figure out a storage system that is fast, easy, reliable. Going with external HD seems like a good simple solution but then everything is dependent on that 1 hd never failing

since your using this id use it, but id stay away from a internal raid, That nas will work fine.

Great thank you for the clarification and quick response. Any advice on Ssd sizes for boot/programs...and  Ssd for raw files/current work/general computer use.

Im looking at Samsung 850 Evo so price starts to get high when I'm looking at multiple of these in large sizes.. at the same time, I hate having not enough and would rather have more than enough even if never needed. Trying to find a comfortable middle ground

I would recommend the ADATA SSD lineup. Have good experiences with the SP550 but that model got discontiuned.
