Thoughts on this 1080 Ti?

I just ordered this GTX 1080 Ti since it's one of the first to be available in my country. It's the Gaming OC, basically the same as the G1. The OC boost clock is 1657 Mhz. The design is basically the same as the G1 1080/1070 (cheap plastic) but on white/silver which looks much better in my opinion. Cooling should be good. It's 'only' 8+2 power phases and 8+6 pin instead of 2 8 pins, but given how Pascal OCs go this doesn't really mean anything. I think it doesn't have a backplate, I honestly don't care but the page is vague about it.

What do you think about this model? Here's Gigabyte's product page.

AS long as it's not like the 1080 you should be fine

I pre-ordered my GTX 1080TI gaming OC edition on the 13th March. Should get it this week hopefully. As for gigabyte ive had no problem with them at all. So hopefully it will be great when i get it.

i prefer the asus one but dat price. almost any gtx 1080ti should be good since its quite a good jump in performance vs 1080. its about the same as the jump from 1070 to 1080 i thought which is a really nice improvement if you ask me.

@Hunter-97-G Gigabyte is one of the best graphics card manufacturers for Nvidia GPUs, you made a very good choice!

Yeah, the Strix sure is nice but it costs 70-80 euros more than the others so it's a nah for me.

yea i get that. personally i would just save another month but its a deathtrap to think that way you can always get a better product for that 50 bucks more.

Meanwhile my 770 dies 3 weeks after warranty expires and my retailer shut down leaving me in the fucking dust

All models are so close together in performance that it's just a manner of choosing the one that has a good mix of looks, performance and price for every user.

Rest in pieces man. I hate when stuff like that happens. You buy a new card, it breaks as soon as you get it, and the manufacturer refuses to replace it, or if you bought it from a local store, they shut down. Either way you're left holding the bag, and it's the worst feeling. My condolences

yea, i would advice people to get an absolute max budget and just stick to a balanced build around that.

unlucky tbh. My 2 670 gigabyte cards are still running great nearly 5 years of use :). Motherboard 4 years no problems.

 

TBH any GPU can break no matter where you got it from.

this is why i generally buy from a slightly more expensive big store with physical locations. they are less likely to go bust and the price often is incredibly close anyways. sadly they don't always have what i need.

I prefer the more extreme cards like KP, HoF, Amp Extreme, and such.

Price and cooling.  For me, I sort them by price, then pick one of the cheapest models with a solid cooler.  No need to get the fancy high end models that offer 2% better performance for 20% more money.

True. I don't really ever physically go out and buy components anymore though. The nearest electronics store to me is about 2 to 3 hours drive (if traffic's good), and their customer service is on a whole new plane of existence. It's razer-level bad. Buying online is a lot more convenient, and if you buy from a good manufacturer with a good warranty, you'll be a-ok if your card dies on you.

Well here in AU and a lot of smaller countries Gigabyte support doesn't exist, all warranty is done through retailers

 

My 1070 arrived the next day and I bought another card for eGPU use, so no harm done really

Yeah, but still. Money wasted is money wasted. I'm just glad it's only happened to me once. Got a Deathadder Chroma (don't judge me alright it was a christmas gift from relatives) broken out of the box. Go to Razer customer support and ask if they can send me a new one, or if I can RMA it and get it fixed or get a refund. I got a reply a week later basically telling me to go fuck myself. Apparently their warranty does not cover manufacturer defects.
