Exchange my GTX1080Ti FE for a GTX1080 FE (1080p 60hz gaming)

RRGT19

Hi,

I have an EVGA GTX1080Ti Founders Edition.

I play at 1080p 60hz.

i7-7700, 16GB 2400MHz.

A friend is giving me hes EVGA GTX1080 Founders Edition and US$ 410.00 back.

I won't buy a better monitor with higher resolution because I'm not a heavy gamer, just casual gamer. Besides, gaming monitors are so expensive right now. I have a lot of things more important to pay in my life.

Gaming today with my GTX1080Ti, GTA V, The Division, The Witcher 3, I have a lotttt of FPS above 60. Notice that I have every single setting turned on.

  • GTA V, ULTRA, MSAA x8, Grass Very High, etc... (See photo attached)
  • The Witcher 3, ULTRA, NVIDIA HairWorks All x8, NVIDIA HBAO+, etc... (See photo attached)
  • The Division, ULTRA, NVIDIA HBAO+, SMAA 1x Ultra, NVIDIA HFTS, Sharpening 100%, Extra Streaming Distance 100%, Object Detail 100%, etc... (See photo attached)

Due to this crazy amount of FPS gained, should I exhange my GTX1080Ti for a GTX1080? (and US$ 410 money back), I just want to play everything on max settings.

Opinions?, advices?

Did you just exchange a 1080 to a 1080 Ti a while ago and now exchanging it back?

don't do it

you'll regret it later; you'll be able to play next gen games at highest settings still at 1080p, and if you keep playing at 1080p then you'll save a upgrade cycle

if you upgrade to 4k later on, since monitors are cheaper you can also still play at 4k at high settings

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

yes. I sold my old 1080 to a friend.
I didn't play enough with the 1080 to test it.
I don't know how good it is (I don't remember, it was on 06/28/2016.

It's up to you. What would the 410 go to? Would it be a better investment to keep the 1080 Ti?

You paid about $800 for the 1080 Ti, but you'll get a 1080 and $410 for the trade. I'd go for it. I don't think you'll need to upgrade for a loo~ng time with either card.

I don't know if you paid for the 1080, but if the value leaves you in the green, go for it. There's nothing wrong with either choice.

My old 1080 cost me 699.99 + 15.14 shipping on June 28, 2016, I sold it 1 week later. On September 3, 2016 I bought a GTX1070 at $439.99 which I sold 2 weeks ago.

I would stick with the 1080 Ti then. It looks like you may have spent more than what should have been spent. No offense, though that doesn't make it any less offensive. Take solace in the fact that the GPU will last about four or more years.

The Ti is a monster, I didn't know that the power of this GPU would be enormous. I just feel that I'm wasting this Ti at 1080p.

I can use the money to buy another HDD or... I don't know really..

The 1080 won't be easier to sell when the next GPU of NVIDI comes out?.

Remember when Witcher 3 came out and it took a Titan X to get 1080p max settings(with gameworks) for an avg 60fps? Yea...

Games keep pushing hardware requirements.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

You have pretty wierd gpu buying habits.

I'd take the 410$ and buy a 1440p panel with that money.
