hmm I don't know lol, if gaming a GPU would be nice also, something like a 480 would be a massive upgrade over that 750ti, provided the CPU has been overclocked

I'm with BGIBBZ CPUs aren'T going to change a lot especially on Intels side atm.

But if you choose AMD then you are going for a new platform with lot's of improvements to come R5 if you want to save money.

The R7 isn't competative with I7 yet although a 1700 does come close to an 7700K after the new BIOS updates and bug fixing is on the way now if you're thinking of the 300-400 $ class. (you have to buy a motherboard, ram and possibly even new cooling though...)

Your GPU can still achieve something and there WILL DEFINETELY be a lot of changes till next year

I'd upgrade the GPU to something like a 470 or 480 (depending on where you live they might be around the same price) and call it a day. If you're just playing at 1080P/60hz the 8350 is still decent, and you're only really being held back by the GPU. You'll still be able to max out your monitor on high settings.

Then I'd save for a complete overhaul in a year or so, once Ryzen has matured and you can get a newer graphics card.

It would be a $200 upgrade vs a ~$450 upgrade. You'd see better gains from a card.

Yea and this sped up over the last years(s) as we seem to go BIG with resolution and get the need to have more power for processing VirtualReality and all the improving graphic engines. Are we just stating facts or do you want to give an oppinion ?

(looked at your profile, read "Don't confuse...." and realised you did not realy show knowledge yet :D)

What I mean is saying wait on the GPU because there will be a big advance is kind of pointless. You could easily say that every year. His CPU is more than capable of 1080p now, and it makes more sense to spend a little to get great performance than to overhaul a CPU and still have a GPU that's holding him back. Upgrading his CPU won't gain him any performance. Upgrading his GPU will.

8350, I just informed myself enougth. Wasn't truely familiar with AMD so far. Even though some games get it to the 80-90s there is indeed still some headroom.

And the CPU is not far if any behind an I5/I7 3k

Taking the 750 against even a 970 is realy a downgrade though, yes, agreed.

480/1060 and surely bigger if there is money would be an impact

(Why does someone have to get the argument out of you ? :):D )

With a 750Ti they get that high? Doubtful. But yes, even with a 470 he can get above 60fps which I'm assuming is all that he needs. Then save up and wait for mature Ryzen, Intels next line, and the goodies that come with it (Vega, whatever Nvidia spits out next, etc).

Haha, I stated above why I thought he should upgrade the GPU instead of the CPU ;)

I'm a dummy, thank you for showing me that you can put a quote in between duhh. Fully agreed even if I prefer Intel ^^

Do keep in mind that I would have to buy a new motherboard and RAM to go along with my CPU.  I'm not really sure which upgrade would do more for me at this time.
