Help Me Decide!

Go to solution Solved by Chikorita,

Thank you all for the answers and opinions on them. xD

Since Option 2 has the higher vote I will consider getting the G Sync monitor, but as some of you say, the 144Hz will be a waste then and that my card can handle great FPS with 144Hz monitor without G Sync. G Sync is a great added ''feature'' to have along with your high end GPU for better and smoother game plays.

As someone who hasn't played on a G Sync monitor before I can't really say its worth getting it over 2x 1070's and just rely on YouTube Videos/Reviews etc.

The ASUS ROG Swift PG248Q 24 Inch monitor is more affordable to buy out of all other G Sync monitors out there, owning this as my first ''G Sync'' monitor will be ok for me?

Option 1 or Option 2. Please Vote Thanks

Hi Guys I need your help on which of my options I should pick. Thanks xD

  • Option 1 : 2x GTX 1070 SLI with a non g sync monitor (Asus vg248qe) 24 inch, wish I can still buy the module for the monitor but it doesn't exist anymore.

  • Option 2 : 1x GTX 1070 and get a g sync monitor (ASUS ROG Swift PG248Q) 24 inch

note : I already got a GTX 1070 installed, buying another in option 1 will make it 2x.

Keep the single 1070, SLI typically isn't supported well and a has many scaling issues, also 2 is a waste for 144hz (1 can do that most of the time, wont quite be able to reach 165fps in all games though).

Get the G-Sync monitor. 1070 can easily push those frames at 1080p in most games where it matters.

SLI is just a waste of money imo, as it doesn't always work properly.

g-sync is usefull when you cannot get enough fps... so with a 1070 @ 1080p g-sync is a waste too

Anyone who has ever played on a g sync monitor will be recommending it trust me. SO SMOOTH. Also people saying its wasted at 1080p no it works on the higher end too and stops tearing (better than v sync)

Advantage of g-sync is the ability to have a smooth image with low fps i.e 30fps, but if you GPU can display most of the game at 120fps+ you won't see that much of a difference since tearing occur way less often if you render more frame. IMO g-sync can be usefull, but are too expensive for the little benefit versus a higher framerate.

Tearing less often at higher frames? Nope. Turn any limits off and see how much tearing there is when a 60Hz monitor is being dealt 200+ fps.

This is true only if you count avg FPS. FPS tends to fluctuate a lot during gaming (depends on game how much) so you will get smooth gameplay without tearing even with dips.

It's a matter of ratio, in theory to avoid tearing you need fps that are mutiple of the refresh rate, with perfect sync, but obviously you can not, but as you say on 60hz monitor tearing can be higly noticiable that because the monitor request a frame less often than higher frequency. But in a matter of fact you dont see a lot of tearing at 144hz with 144+fps, I dont say it's inexistant, but way less often, plus g-sync doesnt always work great.

Again I dont say it's bad, is good and usefull most of the time, i just dont think it's worth it considering the bonus.
