pcie adapter for server?

My server that has been undergoing a transformation to a gaming pc has only 1 pcie 16x slot, I recently found a 1x to 16x adapter for bitcoin mining, I looked into it and there was a small loss in performance. I have found an 8x to 16x adapter here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-E-Express-8X-to-16X-Durable-Adapter-Riser-Card-Without-Extended-Cable-LE-/162284060546?hash=item25c8e23f82:g:adUAAOSwA3dYLVoP and was wondering if it would degrade performance by much? (the 16x slot that I already have in use is an 8x electrically, for more info on that, search up my pc model: hp ml350 G6)

as far as i know, 8x slots in servers are usually open back so you can toss 16x cards into them, no need for an adapter.

Even if you could, that motherboard probably doesn't have Crossfire or SLI support.

 

Also I don't think PCIE works like that.

most aren't open back, but id just cut the slot.

yes pcie works that way, ive done it

 

Your not using crossfire or sli, your using cuda/sli and there working as separate gpu's
