not to sure what that means but I just want legitiment Mac OS installation

If it's for your PC, then I believe by definition that is a Hackintosh. However, if it's for a Mac, then it should have it linked to your Apple account or Mac.

You need to download the OS from the mac app store, and then use the installer to make the usb an installation usb.

If you don't have a mac to download it on, it's illegal and we're not allowed to help with illegal activities

For a friends Mac, it needs a new drive and fresh install of the Operating system

There should be a download available for them on the Mac app store. Here is a link on how to create a bootable installer. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

why not just buy something like this? http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard especially if the OS files might be corrupted?

Why buy 10.6 when 10.12 is free to anyone who owns a Mac?

try having your friend boot into recovery mode. I think it is option + R when you press the power button. Keep holding that until you get a spinning globe. This will allow for a fresh instar of the system.

Yep but he still needs an installer of some description, especially considering he's changing hard drives.

Install on current media and create USB installer from there? There are a million guides if he can get into OSX to create an install media from there. If you get into recovery mode it will download directly from there.
