hello I have a lg monitor at a resolution of 2160x1080 is that 2k 4k or just a bit better than 1080p its 21.9 inch ultra wide

the "k" denomination refers to approximately how many horizontal pixels you have. 2160 is approximately 2000 -> 2k. 1920x1080 (which is what we commonly call 1080p) is also 2k by the same standard.

That is ultrawide monitor.

2160 is the horizontal pixel count.

1080 is the vertical pixel count.

Use the terms HD,Full HD,QHD or Ultra HD when shopping.

720p = 1280 x 720 - is usually known as HD or “HD Ready” resolution

1080p = 1920 x 1080 - is usually known as FHD or “Full HD” resolution

1440p = 2560 x 1440 - commonly known as QHD or Quad HD resolution, and typically seen on gaming monitors and on high-end smartphones. 1440p is four times the resolution of 720p HD or “HD ready”.

2160p = 3840 x 2160 - commonly known as 4K, UHD or Ultra HD resolution. It’s a very large display resolution and it’s found on high-end TVs and monitors. 2160p is called 4K because it offers four times the resolution of 1080p FHD or “Full HD”.

that's wrong and is a common misinterpretation. I'm also too lazy to type so look at this post that our lovely Glenwing was kind enough to make

When "4K" was new to the consumer market, people would ask: "What's 4K?", and usually the response was "it’s four times as many pixels as 1080p". Unfortunately most people misinterpreted this and assumed that the "4" in "4K" actually stood for "how many times 1080p" the resolution was, and since 2560×1440 is popularly known as being "twice as many pixels as 1080p" (it's 1.77 times, but close enough), they decided to start calling it "2K".

While it’s true that 4K UHD (3840×2160) is four times as many pixels as 1920×1080, that isn’t why it’s called "4K". It’s called 4K because it's approximately 4,000 pixels horizontally. The fact that it’s also 4 × 1080p is just a coincidence, and that pattern doesn’t continue with other resolutions.

This thread should be able to answer your questions OP and should have been to you linked earlier.
