Hey there guys, so I know that the Dell XPS 15 9560 has been out for a while, but I recently came across a crazy good deal on eBay, and I'm really interested in getting it. I'm looking at the 16GB ram+ 512gb SSD version. I've only ever heard good things about the laptop, but I just wanted to know if you think I should get it? I'm really into thin and light laptops with a fast enough performance, such as the Razer Blade or Surface Book. But do you guys think I should wait for any releases? Are there any new laptops which will come out soon? The deal is really good and I'm afraid it will be sold out soon.

I currently have a gaming laptop with the i7-4720HQ and GTX 970M, and am not entirely sure of what to do. Please do advise me on this, thank you!

What are your concerns with your current laptops / reasons on wanting the XPS, if you can sell your current laptop and don't mind slightly less GPU performance, the XPS is great for mobile work such as school. The XPS is IMO the best MacBook windows equivalent or close to that of a macbook in regards to build quality and screen.

Don't really have a concern with the current laptop, just seem very interested in the XPS because it looks really nice, has more portability. Only thing holding me back is regretting it if some new laptop comes out within a month or so and is much better. Sigh!

I would rather the mac, just for the build and the fact that it will out live any windows laptop that I have ever seen.

1050Ti is faster than 970M

Where are you located? You could try picking up a Dell Outlet unit for significantly less than retail

idk

1050Ti absolutely murders the mediocre 'PRO 460' in the MBP 15", since while the PRO 460 is the full 1024 cores in Polaris 11, it is slower compared to the desktop 460 by a good amount due to a lower clock on GPU/MEM

On top of that the desktop 460 is slower than the 1050Ti laptop chip..

I was realllly interested in the Mac. I waited 2 years for the MBP which finally came out and was absolutely disappointed with the touchbar macbook pro. Sigh

Yep, but the XPS 15 only has the 1050. I'm in Australia. Prices here are absolutely ridiculous!

Agreed but the mac will outlive the laptop by a mile, I have never seen a windows laptop last longer than 3 years without things dying along the way. My dad has had a mac since 2011 and it still runs like it did the day he got it. I'm sorry but the same cant be said for a windows based laptop.

The touch bar is nothing to be scared of infact its quite good when you get used to it, or you could just disable it and go back to the basics.

Aye, I live in AU too. I used to have my location set to 'Australia. It's hot.' but then I changed it to my current one.

Thinkpads.

Just Thinkpads.

They're rock. solid. And to an extent HP Elitebooks. Only thing that has died was CMOS and timekeeping still works fine even with it dead

Cool! I'm in Adelaide. The prices are crazy! Don't understand what's wrong with them. Anyway, I actually do love macbook pros. Their definitely the best laptops for now. But they just keep going against what the customer asks for. Really disappointed with the latest line, so I am unsure of what to do now. My current laptop probably can last for another 2 years, but I feel like switching up. Hmm

@Droidbot Please stop, the XPS 15 only has a 4gb 1050, not a 1050ti. Nvidia made a 4gb 1050 for laptops, yes it is a bit confusing since the desktop 1050 is only 2gb, but 1050 mobile has both a 2 and 4gb version.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

I dont see why you would want to upgrade LOL. The CPU is faster AND the GPU is faster. LOL. You're literally spending money on a downgrade.

Wait the 4720HQ is faster than the 7700?! The factor of battery life and portability is quite significant though, but I'm still unsure!

I'm not too sure about Lenovo's warranty. I used to have an Alienware and when there were problems Dell would send someone to my place to fix it, and I really liked that!

you do know Alienware is Dell.. and here is the big kicker. Dell and Lenovo are made on the Same production lines.

But yes Dell warranties are fantastic, one of the reasons they have such a good name in business

Yep I do know Alienware is Dell was kinda referring to the Dell warranty heh. But yeah I like the warranty, just in case. Sigh what to do. I'm just really waiting for the Surface Book 2, since the Razer Blade is already out and still has those damn bezels. Don't like to wait another year!

Not at stock, but your 4720HQ can OC. the 7700 is better cause it's a 3.4ghz 4 core boost so you'll need some around 3.6ghz on the 4720HQ to match it but it blasts the 6700HQ out of the water at a moderate 3.5ghz.

Well that's weird! Guess I haven't really been researching enough. I went into the store today to check out the XPS 15 and the Surface Book. Geez the XPS is a beauty but the Surface book seems to have such a great build quality, almost matching Apple's. Sighh maybe I should wait for SB2?

Sure. I personally think it's a dumb as fuck design, but it's built really nice. Also it's magnitudes performance worse than the XPS15 cause it runs a ULV duo-core chip and a 965m which is bad. Straight up bad.

Yeah. Oh geez I hope to God the SB2 releases in April. Most sites seem to state that Microsoft won't announce it at their April event. Sad

Performance won't get much better. In that chassis. You're hoping for maybe a Kaby Lake ULV duo-core + a 1050 MAYBE a 1050ti. Would still be less performance than your laptop RIGHT now.

Ah it's ridiculous ain't it. A 1050TI would definitely make me buy it, but a 1050 I don't know. Hopefully they make it slightly thicker, I don't mind, if it gives a much better performance boost. And they're supposedly doing away with the detachable screen I think?

I honestly wouldn't even. In that kind of chassis there's not much room for OCs and it'll be TDP throttled to keep it in thermal range. An OCed 970m will outperform a below stock 1050ti. Laptop you have right now is fine.

Also all thin and light laptops are LOUD as all hell. What laptop do you have right now?
