i7 920 vs i3 4170

Hi guys.

I can buy from friend i7 920 and mobo for cheap price, or i could keep my i3 4170. I don't have money to buy i5 or i7 haswell, and that will not happend.

So just tell me should i sell my i3 4170 and get his i7, or i should keep my cpu? Thanks

i3 is a lot better than i7 920 even though it is a quad core it is really old and is weak than i7. That i7 will bottleneck even something like a RX 460 whereas i3 can still handle GTX 1060 or RX 480 without any issues(slight bottleneck and in some games nothing at all).

Just save for a better GPU

RX 460, GTX 1050 or ti is the best GPU match for that CPU.

RX 460 and 1050 are same specs like 6950.. it's not worh the upgrade.

1050 ti or rx 470 is different story tho, but i only use programs like unity, unreal engine, and maya so that's the reason i wanted i7.

Yeah well going with GTX 1060 or RX 480 will result in a bottleneck so your listed GPUs are the max.

I tought buying i7 would be better for unity, unreal etc.. but i will stick with i3 then.

You may want to look into the i7 from your friend and swapping in an X5650 (6c/12t)

RX 460 or GTX 1050 are powerful than 6950. You can expect 15-20% performance increase it is worth the money but GTX 1050ti or RX 470 is worth more.

I believe that found fake results on it. As in companies were paying money for results to be improved on it.

I know why, but @deXxterlab97 didn't clarify as to "why?".
