I had my 5930k listed on Amazon for $450 just in case someone really wanted one that badly and for some reason it sold. So now I've got the opportunity to switch architectures if I want. I'm looking at going with a 7700k since most of my time at home is spent coding and gaming as opposed to cpu heavy tasks like rendering. What do you guys think?

For gaming 7700k is a lot better when compared to 6800k so if you game a lot or have no work with any editing or similar stuff then 7700k is the best option otherwise 6800k is a bit better. As you mentioned you'll game 7700k is best option.

Get a Ryzen, we're expecting CPUs on par with a 6800K for $220 April 11, or right now, for $300, an 8-core that can compete with the 6900K. That's if you care at all about your compile times.

If you just want to game then the 7700K will do but it's bad value honestly.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

I have both a 6700k/Z170 and a R7 1700X/X370.

I'm not sure which one I will ultimately keep.

Well, doesn't ryzen have issues with higher speed memory? I don't want to replace my 3200 kit.

Hmm, you already have what seems to be a reaally nice motherboard.  I'd stick with X99 but its ultimately on you.  RYZEN would be first choice and then X99 then Z170/Z270

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

I hate this thing to be honest. Trying to get rid of it too.

It takes a bit of tweaking to run the memory at high speeds, but you can do it by setting the memory multiplier to 2933 and then increase the base clock to hit your 3200. Don't be afraid to do looser timings. Some guy ran their 3200MHz kit at 3600 with loose timings and got pretty great performance out of Ryzen (beat the 7700K in their choice of games)

RYZEN FTW.  8c/16t  for so little and decent clocks.  RYZEN actually performs best with high RAM speeds so as BIOS updates come out that high speed RAM will be very good
