Hey guys, I recently shut down my PC because it froze, but it didn't shut down properly. The monitor turned off but the desktop stayed on along with my keyboard and mouse, I know this because they are LED peripherals. So I just held the power button for 5 seconds to manual turn it off.

I noticed that my main internal HDD was not showing up on Windows Explorer but it is listed in the Disk Management as "unknown". It always asks me to initialise the disk when I open up Disk Management too, which I can't do because I have a load of important files on the HDD.

I have found a lot of threads pointing to download various partition software to fix the MBR which I believe is corrupt due to the faulty shut down, but every piece of software I download, the unknown disk is not listed, only my SSD which contains my Windows 10 OS and a small amount software.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing the issue if it is not the MBR being corrupt, and if it is, do you know how I can get it to show up in the partition software list?

Thanks -MikeUntitled.jpg.ebd419b0824aa817d882ac4d2ba266cc.jpg

You have a backup right?

Other wise, make a image of the drive with ddrescue in linux, then use something like testdisk to try to restore the partition table on the image, don't touch the drive other than the image, good chance its bad.

If you really care about the data, ship it to a datarecovery service.

I don't have a backup of the drive unfortunately. I don't have Linux nor am I familiar with it. I downloaded testdisk but the HDD was not listed in there either. I fear I will be up for hundreds of dollars in data recovery now. Thanks for the quick reply.
