Hello LTT community, I'm in a pinch and need some advice. I was helping a friend assemble a PC; he picked out and bought the parts, and we assembled it fully only to have it turn on (lights, fans, etc.) but fail to output video or post. Initially, there was no beep code, and I figured this was a standard DOA mobo. After removing the RAM, however, I got the standard "RAM error" beep code, indicating that perhaps the mobo isn't DOA. I reseated the RAM and double checked all the required power cables were plugged in, and then switched between 4 proven "working condition" monitors with no success. I then figured it was the type of output I was using (VGA from the mobo) and switched to DVI, still without results. At this point, my friend is debating RMA-ing both his motherboard and CPU, but I'm not sure he needs to do both. Unfortunately, we don't have any similar RAM or, CPUs, or motherboards to test for each parts' viability. I'll post his build below, but can anyone offer assistance?

Mobo- MSI H110M PRO-VD Plus

CPU- Intel i5-7500

RAM- G. Skill Aegis 16GB 2133MHz DDR4

PSU- Thermaltake 600w

Storage- ADATA Premier SP550

Is it because the motherboard is technically only "6th-Gen Ready" or whatever?

No, it's just that the motherboard doesn't support kaby lake without a bios update. Did you use pcpartpicker? They would have flagged it as a potential Incompatibility.

Get any LGA1151 cpu update the bios then try again. it will support the 7th gen because same socket type but needs an update before It can recognise it.

EDIT: whats in your pc? Could always use yours

If you check my account, you'll see largely all of our parts are incompatible. Also, I believe he used a combo of Newegg, Amazon, and Bestbuy in order to pick his parts.

Yep. Needs a bios update. Ran into this problem myself. But being that my setup is a bit older I had to purchase an inexpensive haswell chip to update my bios. Now everything is perfect and I kept the other chip as a backup.
