im semi leaning on picking up the 'new' ipad not pro as i can get a discount of 15% on a mobile plan with said tablet as im an existing customer on said network, would it be worth it?

i already own an iphone 7 plus which is good but media consumption and other things arent as fun :/

USE case-

plex veiwing

vewing PDF's for train simulator (manuals and route guidance)

netlfix

youtube

Some music consumption through spotify

some typing of coursework(use as a convertibly?)

possibly some editing using Imovie

would the 32GB be enough? i have 256GB of storage on my iphone, but i had a 32gb phone before and i easily filled that up within a few months, thios device will last till EOL pretty much so i would prefer 64gb but they dont do that :/

many thanks

Morgan :P

It's really down to iPad and surface. The Surface is good as a laptop and a tablet but falls behind as a tablet.I would say the ipad also has a much better tablet app selection.(Woudn't really be using vegas as a tablet)Battery life is better on the ipad too.

i would go for a microsoft surface if you can afford it and if not, i think a convertible chromebook with touch screen will do

The reason I'm leaning towards the ipad is the portability is just so good.

Too others

I AM NOT looking for a surface/pro like device nor a convertible pc,

I'm looking for the original style tablets such as the ipad and we'll whatever Samsung seem to offer(albeit not much for my requirements/ability to get one)

My first thought was the new iPad, because of your video heavy usage I would opt for the 128GB model. I have the 128GB iPad Pro and use it as a daily driver for everything my laptop used to do apart from writing reports.

Thanks, do you have a suggestions on potential case/keyboard combos?

Currently looks like the ipad is a good choice for an 'I can do a bit of everything' Tablet

Any idea what happened to the Samsung lineup of the galaxy tab line up?

Android is a charm on tablets. I'm not sure what you're talking about, you're probably just used to a iPad though so I can't blame you there.

I use a android phone. But I feel like tablets are so neglected by google.they rarely get updates.I don't think any of them frequent updates other then that pixel one and the app compatibility is just horrendous

That really depends on the company to release updates to there products. Samsung tends to be really good with security updates. Even if I am still running on Marsh mellow I still receive security updates.

I can't afford a surface, I can only get what tablets are available to me on. My mobile carrier, ipad, some generic carrier branded one, and a Samsung one :/

There doesn't seem to many players in the 'traditional tablet' (unless it's super cheap) market I would personally class the surface as laptop wannabe

iv been through a lot of tablets being an android developer. the two best tablets on the market right now for price are the ipad mini and the nvidia shield. the shield has better performance but the ipad has a better screen. unfortunately the shield is only 8", where as the ipad's scale up in size. All the other android tablets have not impressed me, they are overpriced. I will never buy a Samsung tablet again as the software upgrades are too slow and Samsung drops support very quickly. The asus tablets look good but I don't know anyone that has one and I don't think i've ever seen anyone use one.

Your options right now: iPad (5th Generation) Surface 4 and Galaxy Tab S3. Even though I love Android, in this case I would go for the iPad because its 300 dollars cheaper for around the same performance.
