Why are you running raid 10? Id run raid 5 for most uses, more storage space, and faster

Any hdd will work

what are you using to make the array? md, zfs, hardware raid, storage spaces? Don't use motherboard raid.

You'll need 4 hard drives for RAID 10, as well as a motherboard that supports it, or a RAID controller card.

Which hard drives to buy depends on your budget and usecase.

Does you mum know you're here?

RAID 10 is mainly used medium business and enterprise level companies. RAID 5 is enough. You need 3 drives for that.

For high iops storge. for things like databases and vm's

For large storage, raid 6 is normally used, then there is a san ontop of that.

I'd get WD Reds, HGST NAS, or any other RAID ready / NAS rated drive.

You need a RAID controller (either software or hardware) that supports the RAID you want (10, 5, 6).

I'd recommend RAID 6 personally though.

You also need a minimum of four drives.
