So I might start to think about making this beast cooler and quieter. Sits around 83 on load which is not pleasant at all. And fan speed has to be around 70-80% or so too

It's a  PowerColor RED DRAGON RX 480 4GB (AXRX 480 4GBD5-3DHDV2).

RMA isn't gonna work sadly, I will try but right now I kinda given up a bit

Well the first thing to do is reapply thermal paste? But would it help? I know it would but will the result be significant? I don't want to waste money on that (even though Thermal paste are fairly cheap)

Slap an aftermarket cooler/fan seems like a good choice (guide me please). Low cost would be nice too so throw some suggestions.

Obviously I have no money for a custom/liquid loop.

Also I noticed Tomb Raider got a ridiculously low frame rate after overclocking. First time I ran the benchmark it got this result which was really nice (taken from my YT video)

And when I reran again I got a quite low FPS. So could it be thermal throttling already?

Valley scores are good. The whole test ran fine on Extreme HD. I ran several times too all stable

But temps were below 80 degrees (up to 79)

Here is a proper solution but if you have a big enough case you can actually use some full size CPU coolers on GPUs

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

get an Accellero Twin Turbo III. i have one on my 970 and it never goes above 50C anymore :D i do run 100% fan speed though but its insainly quiet compared to the Gigabyte G1 cooler that was on it even maxed out

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Thermal past can help. Is there a fan in front of the GPU in your case?

Single fan. There are some holes look at pic above. How much would that help? Maybe reapply thermal pads too?

I've seen vids where reapplying thermal paste decreases 3 degrees and sometimes even 5 degrees, but that is not the best solution for you.

A 78 ish looks still better than going around 80 degrees

Reapplying thermal paste? 3-5c probably. Since your GPU is pretty new, I think you should keep those thermal pads. I should be able to get results from my fan test within about a week. If it works, I'll send you a fan and a shroud for you

Hmm is it universal? Ie work on every card

most of them work on almost everything from the 8800GT to the TITAN XP basically. check compatability on their site first though. i had some problems with installing it on my 970 but it was super worth going through the troubble. the 970 G1 PCB has the VRM by the display out end of the card instead of the normal place of litteraly the other end of the PCB lol

Would it though? Or would a new cooler do better? Considering I had an old oem gtx 760 in there and didn't get that high temps in the same case

you could get a new case for $30-50 and a Hyper 212 or similar for $25-50
