you are right, however most console gamers don't want to build their system or install the OS let alone learn how to, so the crux of the issue is still; you pay more to make the equivalent with a pc then you also have to spend time configuring it all to work at it's best.  consoles are plug and play, hell you don't even need to setup the graphics options as they come pre-configured to be the best they can.

This is also true, but the best part is every year building an configuring OS's such as Linux get more and more non-tech friendly. This has to be the last generation of true console, by the time ps5 and Xbox2 come out, building a PC and installing a gaming distro of linux will be child's play.

Work Station:: Cooler Master Storm Trooper // i7-3930K @ 3.9 GHz // Asus Sabertooth X79 // Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4X4GB) 1600 MHz // Cooler Master 1200W Gold // Xonar Essence STX // Radeon HD 6970 // Avermedia HD Live Gamer Pro

Gaming Rig:: Cooler Master Scout // i7-2700k @ 4.0GHz // MSI Z68 // G-Skill Ripjaw 16GB (4X4EB) 1066MHz // Antec 750W Bronze // Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD // EVGA GTX 670

very true, though I'm not a betting man, if I was I would put a few pennies on their still being a pre-configured option on the market in 5 years.

if they are equal why can't the Xbone manage 1080p? the 650 Ti boost was designed by Nvidia to be a budget 1080p GPU and it can deliver 1080p in games.

The problem for both the Xbox one and PS4 games not running in full 1080p is not hardware problems that people will happy believe but its the whole network infrastructure, both Microsoft and Sony designed the next gen consoles to work with DRM but the out cry for the Microsoft having a DRM system on the xbox one made both companies change their mind's, Sony just announced after the fact that the PS4 will not have DRM system just make Microsoft the bad guy.

Both next gen consoles will have day one patches to remove the DRM.

Also if the APU's are as strong as a 7790 or a 7850 or so, why won't they be able to run many of the next gen games at 1080P? On low settings my totally unoptimized system will be able to play pretty much every game at 1080P while a highly optimised console isn't.

Sorry, but if there is an actual article that says that was Sony's plan then please post it.  From everything I have seen, there are no justifications behind the whole "DRM" on Sony thing.  Even the day one patch for Sony isn't to enable gameplay (from what I have seen it can still play games), but rather just to enable blu-ray and dvd support.  The more likely cause is that most developers haven't gotten their hands on PS4's and Xbox one (although your point is still valid for XBox One).  There are many optimizations you can do, but imagine developing a Windows game but only using a virtual machine on Mac....it will be hard to optimize.

For the TC, many people have said the forgotten components, but I will add Blu-ray software.  You can buy a cheap $50 blu-ray drive, but the software itself (even the cheapest of ones) will likely cost $30.  Also from what I have heard Kinect 2.0 actually contains a lot of more expensive hardware (I could be wrong as it is just rumors, but given it uses time of flight technology I wouldn't be surprised).

Now you only need to add 2 controllers, a kinect, an O.S and a bluray player. Plus a 12mth warranty that says: "this will all work together and play every game you buy"  and your set.

On PC you never need a optical drive. Just downland over Steam, Origin or just a standalone installer. SteamOS or Staem on Linux is your OS (no cost). A keyboard and mouse if you don't have you can get for about 25 USD.

I love it how people think consoles are chaper than gaming pc's. I mean even if you bought windows 7 or 8 for $90 it'd still be better than owning a console >_<

Agreed, but you also have to think. People like me (Who prefer owning physical discs) usually don't like digital downloads (In less something is on sale) :P

whether we think one is necessary or not is just a personal opinion, the point is the xbox has one and we can't watch bluray movies without one,  If the OP wants to match the xbox then it needs to come with all of the components an xbox does, And I won't even talk about the labor time to assemble and OS/driver tweaking to get it working just right.

they are,  what your saying is you personally prefer windows and a more powerful pc, but that does not change the fact that consoles are cheaper and simpler to operate thus making them appealing to a certain type of gamer.

Everyone complaining that you cannot truly get the price for a PC down to the xbone you are kind of sort of correct.

What you guys are forgetting is the gaming rig does not just replace the xbone or ps4.  It also is a replacement for their generic PC that they got from Dell or HP and spent 400 to 800 USD on.  Average that out to 600 and you now have double the money to spend to replace the xbone but also replace their generic PC.

So in the spirit of replacing both the xbone and their generic PC that they are going to have you now have 1200USD.  Lets see what we can do with that

CPU:  AMD FX-8150 3.6GHz 8-Core Processor  ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard:  Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($114.99 @ Newegg)
Memory:  G.Skill Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($119.00 @ Newegg)
Video Card:  Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Video Card  ($299.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive:  Asus BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer  ($58.99 @ NCIX US)
Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($84.99 @ NCIX US)
Other: Game Controller ($14.99)
Total: $1152.91

But you don't have the same multiplayer experience.

If you can do split screen on a PC, I will buy whatever that game is in a heartbeat.

Who the hell split screens anymore?  You have this invention called the internet where you can do multiplayer without losing screen real estate now.
