Intel or AMD

I'm upgrading my cpu, mobo and ram in a couple weeks when ryzen 5 launches, and I want to wait unitl benchmarks.

If the benchmarks are good, I'll get the high end R5 processor, with this build here, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CvyxPs.

If the benchmarks are bad, I'll get this one, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QL2Fqk.

 

I can spend a total of around $570. What do you recommend?

what cpu cooler are you gonna use on the i5?

For this price range I recommend AMD Ryzen 5.

I'd get the R5 even if it is marginally worse than the i5 at launch. Keep in mind that the Ryzen comes with a stock cooler (also has RGB!!) so it will be cheaper upfront at around $250 plus mobo and RAM

usage of what? for the processor? gaming and light content creation/recording. but almost entirely gaming

i already have a cryorig h7 that will be compatible with either

@ethandeguire The 7700K would be an amazing choice if you can stretch your budget...

yeah, dont know if its worth it because a better motherboard would be in place as well

Well, the 7700K is faster than Ryzen 7 in games, so it will 99% be faster than Ryzen 5 as well

But will it be $100 faster? And the extra 2 cores and 4 threads will be helpful in non-gaming workloads

We can pretty much just look at the 1800x overclocked to see what an overclocked R5 chip will probably be like in gaming.  This is because it's the same architecture and probably will not clock much higher than the R7 chips.  This means that, even though I still recommend waiting for reviews, we can pretty much say right now that the Ryzen 5s will outperform the i5s in pretty much everything.
