Does anyone else store most all of their data on a drive or server that's separate from my main rig?

Im building a new rig for Ryzen, and I'm going to use a 128gb boot drive, and 512gb game drive (both SSD) but other than that, I'll be storing everything on my external raid drive.

Its too much of a hassle when you use multiple devices for work, like me, to store everything on one pc. I feel like I can't be the only one?

I use multiple laptops for work aside from my main rig that I work on as well. When I need to switch devices, I just swap a few USB 3.0 Cables

I have my OS, frequently played games, Adobe Suite on a 256b. SSD. The rest of my programs and files are stored on a 1tb. HDD. I have some games, all my movies, shadowplay and relive clips, and a backup of my PCs stored on a 4tb nas. Each of my computers files can also be accessed through network drives on my other computers. And all of my files are also backed up to the cloud and synced with my other PCs via OneDrive

I don't have NAS, but I have external portable drives in use for either separate data storage or data backup/redundancy.

My desktop has a drive layout of:

  • 256GB M.2 Windows OS Drive w/ priority apps
  • 500GB SSD standard app drive
  • 2x 3TB HDD in RAID 1, designated as the network data storage drive for my laptop and desktop to access either by wi-fi (homegroup share) or VPN (still working on that, just don't have time to config/test extensively).

I don't have too much data yet, but I will need a better network storage solution soon. Right now I have a 128gb  850 evo as a cach and scratch disk and a 256 850evo for my OS and programs. Then I have a 1tb drive for my other media, a backup of my 256gb drive, games and other programs. Then I have another computer on my network with one 256gb adata premier SSD and a 2tb drive with a 500gb partition for that computers media and the rest of the drive for a backup of my main computers 1tb and that computers ssd.

Then I use Microsoft Onedrive to sync some random files using symlinks on my main computer.

Computers r fun

everything is local, i dont have anything on my NAS, i only have that running for my parents so they can store things in it because they have super small harddrives and its going to be easier for me when i upgrade them later if they have all their files already

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.
