Oh wow I actually tried that last night. Anyways... I doubt it as that is a universal connector. That is if it's not slightly proprietary.

No, most laptop chargers and even my Xbox use it.  Also I am not italian no matter what the picture says

So long as it fits snugly, no exposed connectors and reverse polarity isn't an issue I see no reason why it isn't safe. With the exception that the charging circuitry inside the white box may have to pull just a little bit more of a fraction of an Amp from the wall to compensate for the black cable. I doubt this is an issue though. Unless you put a huge load on the other end.

Bad idea if the connections are open to air, but it doesn't look like that from the photo. It's just mains voltage going to the same place it would go without the fancy-apple-branded-expensive adapter.

It's the standard apple ipad charger brick

I'm referring to the connection on the charger itself. Sometimes connectors may look exactly the same on the outside, but the ground/+/- positions might differ.

In this case there in no polarity. Its AC not DC on the input.

And for the OP - it is not bad idea at all. Unless your AC cable is total crap.

I would say so too. But this isn't my field of study so I'll never know for sure. Sometimes Apple does things that you just don't understand why.

In this case, unless Apple demands that your electrical installations must be eg. DC (which would be utter nonsense for everyone. Except Thomas Eddison), what I've previously written stays. No problems, everyone can do it without any consequences. Common sense stays. Don't use damaged or complete crap cables.

And yes, Apple likes to shake the standards all over but in this case they are powerless to do it.

Cables are just wires wrapped with isolator. They are made to conduct any kind of electricity except that they are specifically designed and made to only conduct a certain type of current. (Which you might never find anywhere except if you are working in such a large factories)

Anyways, people in my country has been doing such a job in a more extreme ways. They usually twist two cables together and covers it with a tape. Nonetheless it doesn't do any harm but be wary of how much current you are pushing through that thin wires.
