Evening everyone.

So got a client who's kid is off to design school and will be using a variety of design programs. now I know thew Quadro cards are built for this so please dont give me the Geforce is consumer and Quadro is Professional cause that doesn't help in this matter.

My question is its between the 960M 4GB Vs the M1000m 2Gb

The place where I'm getting confused is the Quadro will have the better drivers and handle large files much better, but the client is just starting so a few years away from the big stuff, and the 960M is a much more powerful card. Reason why I asked not to give me the Quadro is better cause design speech is its a very entry level Quadro card, yes when you get higher up the Quadro's are epic workhorses but at this lower level would the raw power of the 960m give it that slight edge over the M1000m ?

As far as I know there will be no gaming on this system.

What do you guys rate..

960M would be better IMO.  Also by that time, the client would most likely get a more powerful machine.  For the first year of design school,  I'd imagine he won't be handling large files much.  May I ask what laptops you are comparing?

EDIT-What programs will he be using?  This can make a sizable difference.

Dont need Quadro's for design school. They'll only see the benefit of Quadros in huge Solidworks. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Why-you-should-use-a-Quadro-video-card-in-Solidworks-2016-751/

I'm not quite sure what programs one uses for design school but I know the 960m is a very capable card that helps with some of the CAD programs I've used as an engineering student. I'd say go with the 960m because unless you need the quadro for something that is restricted to only quadros like for example some programs only support gpu acceleration with quadros the 960m will get the job done and is quite powerful.

Thanks guys, So looks like the HP Omen is actually coming out on top, Its got the 1050M and a NVMe SSD and drops the 4K+touch Screen which i find completely pointless on a 15" laptop.

Also the omen has the latest CPU and GPU over the Dell for the same price. This is one of our suppliers.

The other specs speak for themselves. Double the Ram, SSD+HDD and much better looking (Students care for that :P_)

You sir are correct, thus making the 1050 even better value.. Might just get rid of my MSI Apache and go for a omen :P
