I want to have one virtual machine running on a separate monitor for short periods. any good and free software for this?- i wanna have 2 people using 1 pc at the same time running 2 instances of tf2. is this possible? sorry i am a noob. btw my cpu supports vt-x and vt-c and virtualisation from intel but its only a ht dual core so i was only gonna run easy games.

how about virtualbox- its the most reccomended one on other sites?

Running games in a VM based off a program like VirtualBox and VMWare is not going to work. The hardware such as the GPU is emulated.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

ok, not even not gpu demanding games like minecraft? what then?

Even Minecraft won't run good (if it will load).

Don't run vms at all. You have a dual core. Dual cores are already underpowered. Don't put more load on them.

its just for light gaming for an hour or 2. minecraft can run on a single core, and tf2 is fine on a dual core- 3.5ghz. It is hyperthreaded by the way

It doesn't matter. It's a bad idea. You need one core per vm for the os, not to mention one core for the host. And we're not talking threads, we're talking cores.

My native language is C++

Yes but you want 2 users, so lets do some maths.

1 Core for OS + 1 Core for Each User = 3 cores

thats not how cores work, you can share them, and with something like tf2 thats very lightweight cpu won't be a issue.

ok, i guess, but will it not work bcus hyperthreading. ik it wont be good, but is it possible?

What OS are you on?

For windows run hyper-v, for linux use kvm

But there is no way to play games in the vm's their virtual gpu's just don't allow that.

virtual box doesn't support gpu passthrough on windows.

If you on linux, use kvm its faster and more flexable

g4560 and rx 470 with 8gb ram. i can add a second gpu easily but itll be old barely good enough

you can do this with tf2 just fine then.

Install linux on it.(id personally run fedora)

Install kvm on there with virt-manager and make a vm that used the dgpu.

Use the igpu for fedora.

You need to install linux(ubuntu will work) on the hardware, not in a vm.

Normally multiseat software(like the one made by microsoft) won't let you play games in  a vm due to directx errors. Just make the installer and it will manager the dual boot.
