..increase the voltage?

that's the only way.

(or sell the CPU for like $35)

i had a amd 9590 laying around and i was wondering how far i could overclock it tryed going past 4.8 with 1.38volts to the cpu anything past that is just freezes! anyone got any ideas how i can clock it higher

I'd say 1.38 is low for 4.8, so that's already a good result if stable. To try higher you need to increase the voltage, but make sure you cool the CPU and motherboard properly.

AMD CPU's can take higher Core Voltages compared to Intel chips.

If adequate cooling is available, you could push 1.5V through them.

I can do 4.8 GHz constant across all cores with 1.40V with my FX-8350, and 1.45V for 4.9 GHz.

AMD Ryzen 9000 Rig

  • AMD R7 9800X3D + Alphacool CORE 1 w/ Performance Mount Kit + Thermal Grizzly AM5 Contact Frame
  • Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro Ice
  • 32GB (16GB X2) G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6400
  • Sapphire NITRO+ 6800 XT Special Edition + EKwb Full Cover Block
  • Custom Loop w/ 2x 360mm Radiators
  • WD SN850X + WD SN750 + Samsung 980
  • EVGA P2 850W + Red/White CableMod Cables
  • Lian-Li O11 Dynamic EVO XL

AMD Ryzen 5000 Rig

  • AMD R7-5800X
  • Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro AC
  • 32GB (16GB X 2) Crucial Ballistix RGB DDR4-3600
  • Gigabyte Vision RTX 3060 Ti OC
  • EKwb D-RGB 360mm AIO
  • Intel 660p NVMe 1TB + Crucial MX500 1TB + WD Black 1TB HDD
  • EVGA P2 850W + White CableMod cables
  • Lian-Li LanCool II Mesh - White

Intel i7-8086K / Z390 Rig (Decommissioned Q2' 2025)

Intel i7-6800K / X99 Rig (Officially Decommissioned, Dead CPU returned to Intel)
Intel i5-4690K / Z97 Rig (Decommissioned)

AMD FX-8350 / 990FX Rig (Decommissioned)

That's not going to cut it, I'm afraid. You are going to need to push voltages really high to go any further, and that increases heat by a lot. On top of that, you need to keep an eye at VRM temps, because they can literally catch on fire.

I haven't tested them all :P But if you are for pushing the OC, I'd look into dual radiator AIOs and above. In any case, always monitor the CPU temps while stress testing and that will tell you when you are maxing out your current cooler.

Regarding the VRMs, I recommend pointing any fan you can fit to their heatsink to help dissipate the heat. Which motherboard are you using?
