How do I improve speed without ethernet?

We pay for 76mb/s internet and when you connect straight through ethernet cable it gets pretty much that, low 70s. My PC gets about 10mb/s on wifi but I mostly use homeplugs, which give me 25-30 mb/s. Is there a faster method than homeplugs? I don't really see why the download speed is slowed from 70 to 30 on homeplugs.

Is there any ideas on how to improve my download speed? Ping is fine... usually like 5ms when I test on speedtest which is excellent. it just DL that im concerned about.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Get a newer AC access point and an AC wireless adapter for your PC.

Your best bet is to first test out the connection through a cable, and see what speed you get.  Then I suggest upgrading your wireless access point to something with at least AC 1200 bands.  Which will give you good wireless network throughput.

You also should make sure your computer you are connecting through wireless has at least AC 1200 networking capability.  If it does not, you can purchase a wireless network card which can connect via PCIE or USB and give you the network throughput you need.  Keep in mind that wifi will never be as fast as wired in normal circumstances.  And that you should be as close to the access point as possible, and have a good access point, that has good wireless networking throughput.

get better router, move closer to router.

Agreed, and don't use PowerLine. That can be a MAJOR disadvantage for the speed. For instance, my speed coming in is 200/20, but I get 8/1 over PL.

As I said, I get 70+ mb/s via ethernet.

We have the Asus RT-N66U router which is supposed to be quite good right?

My wireless card is pretty crappy though I suppose. But my phone only gets 4mbps wifi from my room where my PC is. There are two brick walls between my PC and my router. I am not sure if getting stronger wireless kit will help.

I can't use ethernet as my PC is to far away and it would mean wiring it through the house which we are not gonna do lol :)

You could look in to MOCA 2.0 adapters if you have Coax by your router and in your room. Just one catch.... MOCA adapters can be a little pricey, plus you need to make sure you have MOCA compatible spliters as well as a MOCA filter on the main cable line coming in to your house.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
