Ryzen 7 1700 or Ryzen 5 1600x?

Hello dear Linus Tech People :)

I'm on BIG dilemma on what to buy :/

Here is for what i need: I'm small youtuber who render videos for games (Mobile games) and work on old dell 3537 i5 lap-top and my CPU is really weak for rendering or recording games because its i5 4200u. I'm almost on 20k subscribers so i need something serious for playing games, streaming and recording. I dont plan to strean or record 4K only 1080p or 720p becouse in our country its not that fast internet for 4k :) and also in our small country only rich boys have 4k so i'm more focus on normal people who only use 1080p monitors or less :)

Now in my country Ryzen 7 1700 its 380 euro or more and i'm hype for this but for me its problem Base clock of 3.0ghz and i dont like that :/ now ryzen 5 will launch on 11 aprill and the one thats in my target its Ryzen 5 1600x 6/12 threads with 3.6 base and 4.0 turbo.

Now my question is: Whats the best choice for me as Gamer and Youtuber? do i wait for Ryzen 5 and save around 100 euro with good Base and Turbo speed or go with Ryzen 7 1700 with 3.0 base speed?

Just to tell you I HAVE NEVER DONE OVERCLOCKING so overclocking its not what i'm looking for :)

Also i need for 720p/1080p streaming/recording also Rendering videos with Sony Vegas 13 and Handbrake :)

I'm looking best value for the money :) and also that can doo what i need :)

If you can, I would wait for the 1600X.  It will definitely be better for gaming due to it's higher clock speed.  On top of that, its video streaming/recording/rendering performance should be on par with Intel's i7-6800k, which is great. :D

Congrats on 20k, and I wish you luck in the future! ;)

Let me say... OCing was something I was terrified of. But it truly isn't hard. Just take it slow... The 1700 can hit 3.8-3.9Ghz fairly easily.

Other than that.. Really wait for reviews on comparing the 1600x and 1700. The extra cores/threads might not be worth it or they might be.

If all you will be doing is streaming/rendering/recording with this PC, then yes, the 1700 is a much better option.

I'm worried about base clock of 3.0 :/ I'm big noob of overclocking becouse i have never overclock anything :) thats why i'm on big dilemma :)

Is it better to go with higher base and turbo clock or with more core and less speed :)

it overclocks itself long as you have headroom in temps like gpu boost 3.0 http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/technologies-gaming/over-drive

Ryzen 7 sounds better for your uses. it'll do well with gaming and streaming, as well as encoding/uploading to Youtube.

the 1600 chips will do fine as well, but not as well as Ryzen 7.

i have the r7 1700 and didn't have to mess with voltage at all to get all cores to run at 3.7ghz so you should be fine for clock speed even if you use the base cooler. to over 3.7 will take much more voltage and would require more beefy cooling so if you get a b350 motherboard you should be able to get 3.7 on all cores easy with just one click with ryzen master.

this a picture of ryzen master. all i had to do was set the first core to 3.7 and all the other automatically set themselves to 3.7. then i clicked the apply button and then i was running at 3.7ghz. its really easy so i wouldn't worry about it. if you want to go higher than that you either have to get luckier than me or set some higher voltages and have better cooling.

What was the CPU temperature? Is it stable for long time use? I dont need boost only for few minutes or 1 hour :) i need stable for games not to crash or something :)

honestly i have an hyper 212x so i'm not sure but at stock voltages of 1.875 you should be fine with the stock cooler or you can get an after market on and get better temps. i get a max temp of about 50 something c with this setup on prime95

here are my temps after running prime 95 for a little bit. it is still currently running and hasnt really gone above 53 degree C. it may be higher after an hour but it shouldn't be too much higher.

I would personally recommend the Ryzen 7 1700. It has enough power (and cores) that you can simply install it and let Windows deal with the rest - no Ryzen Master or overclocking required. The advantage of this (and leaving things to Windows) is low power states for lower work loads. Currently (while typing this) my computer is idling at around 1-2% CPU usage and Windows (in response to this) has 'parked' 7 of the 8 cores (14 of the 16 threads). It also has underclocked the remaining cores to 1.53Ghz at a lower voltage, resulting in a reduced power draw of ~2w. This allows for 43c temps with the fan on my stock cooler at 500 RPM (literally silent from outside the case). Once I open a program that needs some extra power (video rendering for example) Windows pushes the core up to ~3.4Ghz, instantly activates all cores and allows for insanely quick rendering times. The cooler is audible then, though not unpleasant, managing ~65c temps @ 1300-1400RPM. On hotter days the cooler may spin a little faster, but it'll manage fine.

Overall, the advantage of the 1700 is it has a cooler out of the box, is faster and will double as an efficient power saver when you're not rendering anything.

Edit: Seems the Windows built in power management actually works with Ryzen Master - you'll simply be seeing the max speed for it. I've now set mine to 3.7Ghz now.
