Is 4GB RAM enough?

I'm getting a laptop soon with only 4GB RAM. Is it enough for school work and gaming? I only play Dota 2 and CSGO.

As Long as you don't crank the settings, then you should be fine with only 4 gigs of ram, although you shouldn't have anything else open while you game.

What are the rest of your specs by chance?

AFAIK CS is 32 bit so shouldn't use a lot of RAM. I played CSGO on 6GB just fine, however don't expect great FPS if the laptop only comes with 4gb RAM since that probably reflects the caliber of the rest of the components

That's an F in the profile pic

because windows uses more ram if more is available, windows itself is actually quite comfortable using as little as 1GB, or as much as 8GB.

that said, CS:GO lists minimum 2GB ram, and dota lists 4GB ram minimum.

4 GB of RAM is plenty for chrome or edge. Gaming is a bit of a stretch although the only 4GB machine I have is a low powered celeron laptop so I can't speak from that end

Secondary Laptop (Uni MK2): Ryzen 7 5800HS, Nvidia GTX 1650, Radeon Vega 8 Mobile, 16 GB DDR4 3200 Mhz, 512 GB SSD

2021 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

Meme Machine (Uni MK1): Shintel Core i5 7200U, Nvidia GT 940MX, 24 GB DDR4 2133 Mhz, 256 GB SSD+500GB HDD, 15.6 in TN Display

2016 Acer Aspire E5 575

Retired Laptop (Gearsy MK2): Ryzen 5 2500U, Radeon Vega 8 Mobile, 12 GB 2400 Mhz DDR4, 256 GB NVME SSD, 15.6" 1080p IPS Touchscreen

2017 HP Envy X360 15z (Ryzen)

PC (Gearsy): A6 3650, HD 6530D , 8 GB 1600 Mhz Kingston DDR3, Some Random Mobo Lol, EVGA 450W BT PSU, Stock Cooler, 128 GB Kingston SSD, 1 TB WD Blue 7200 RPM

they paired a quadcore i5 with 4GB ram....

please tell me that that's upgradable, because it's a pretty nice laptop besides the 4GB ram.

Will not play on ultra settings so that I can get consistent framerates. I don't run any programs on background while gaming.

i think OP's location may be a giveaway to the reason for the 4GB. laptop manufacturers often "cut corners" to make their laptops more affordable in regions with lower budget. for example one of my laptop has two heatpipes, while the russian model only has one. and ram is just a *VERY* easy corner cut, certainly if it's in a slot, because you can quite literally just toss a cheaper stick in.

It should be fine, CS GO is more of a cpu heavy, I ran it all low on my laptop igpu with i3 5005u and get around 50fps. Playable.

Lol, that 1050 makes all the difference in the world.  You should be capable of running CSGO and DOTA with that GPU/CPU combo, maybe spend a couple of shekels to get another 4GB stick

Yup you're right. Many entry level gaming laptops here only came with 4GB RAM which is quite common.

Ok well not so much chrome but its enough, I kept thinking my main PC for some odd reason. Since that machine has 8 GB of RAM. 4 GB of RAM on edge is kinda nice and even chrome aint that bad. I had a ton of tabs open and the RAM usage went to like 69%. Not bad
