M.2 or sata

I've got a motherboard that has an m.2 drive and data ports (obvi) should i buy a normal SSD or spend just a little bit more for the m.2 drive?

If the mobo supports NVMe, go for M.2 NVMe SSD
If you want better cable management, go for M.2 SATA SSD
If not, go for 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Only go for M.2 SSD with NVMe.

how can i tell if it supports NVme i mean i know i have an m.2 slot but how do i check that?

What are you using an ssd for? In most case you won't benefit from nvme. If m. 2 is same price or cheaper then get it as you won't have to deal with sata cables. If not regular 2.5" ssd would do fine.

gonna be putting games on it mostly kinda have a shitty hard drive slows down my gaming its the same price put like 10GBs smaller then the one i was looking at thought it would be nice to save space and not need to worry about sata cords and power

Games won't benefit from nvme at all

But 2.5" ssd are usually cheapest

just go with a m.2 if its not that much more expensive (20 dollars more expensive max) and generally just get a m.2 ssd because if your mobo does not support nvme you get roughly the same performance but in no cases do you get less and you get a lot easier job for cable management

buy a 2.5" ssd if u only game...u will get a much better value. no need to clog up ur m.2 drive with m.2 sata ssd. when the price per gb of nvme drops and u really need the extra speed( which is very unlikely) buy a nvme

Well it depends on what you are doing, most motherboards now would support m.2 storage devices but if your just gaming I would just buy a SATA SSD if your just gaming you don't need m.2 speeds, the only reason you would need m.2 speeds if you were content creating. seeing how cheap m.2's have gotten I would still buy an SSD.
